What does rural India need?
Agriculture as a sector is affected by numerous factors: weather, quality of soil, availability of
water, to name just a few. What is left at the end of each story is a community trying hard to
sustain itself by overcoming all these factors that are often beyond one’s control.

Rural population has to be supported with innovative communication technology. Design

solution should be able to maximize the economic and social aspects of the community. Rural
businesses need to be created profitably for individuals of the community.

Following are common problems that limit the efficiency of rural businesses:

Dependency on the middle-men.

Lack of information on market demand and price.
Lack of access to government loans.
Lack of information about latest techniques.

The design solution should allow people to share information and interact with a wider
audience. This in turn would ensure higher market adoption.

Rural India needs a voice

Samvaad, a dialogue in Hindi,
is a networked communication
space that allows farmers to
come together to share ideas and
information.
Using voice and data communication
of mobile technology, farmers at
