A. TOPIC
Inferential and Descriptive Statistics

B. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
The data are collected from the number of visitors every 10 minutes in both coffee
shops of Starbucks and J.CO, those are located in Pondok Indah Mall 1, South
Jakarta. Then, these data are calculated and discussed statistically by our group. From the
result of the collected data we would like to know if the average and the variance number
of visitors of these two different coffee shops are the same.

H. HYPOTHETICAL TEST
Hypothesis (Ho): The average number of visitors of Starbucks Coffee and is the same with
the level of significant is 0.05.
1. H0 : 1 = 2
H1 : 1 2
2. = 0,05
3. Uses z distribution because n = 60 > 30
4. Boundaries for acceptance/rejection critical points : : /2 = 0.025. From z-score table, the
boundaries are Z0,025= +1.960.
5. Decision : Reject H0 and accept H1 when RUz< -1.960 or RUz> +1.960. If not, accept H0.
6. Ratio test :
Using the average of the number of visitors

7. Decision Making:
Because RUz is between >-1.960 which means in between 1.960, so H0 is
accepted. That means the average number of visitors at Starbucks Coffee Pondok Indah
Mall 1 equals to the average number of visitors at Pondok Indah Mall 1 and the variance
number of visitors at at Starbucks Coffee Pondok Indah Mall 1 equals to the variance
number of visitors at Pondok Indah Mall 1 .
I.

FINAL DISCUSSION
The null hypothesis (Ho) which was tested in this report was according to the number of
visitors in both coffee shops which were Starbucks Coffee and J.CO located in Pondok
Indah Mall 1, South Jakarta. We collected the data on Sunday (3rd of May 2015).We
recorded the data of the visitors every 10 minutes in both coffee shops .The level of
significance used was 0.05. Because both data are independent data, the total amount was
more than 30 and there were sample variances of both samples, we used z-distribution to
calculate the hypothesis. With the level of significance of 0.05, we got the boundaries of
critical area of 1.960 from z-score table. Based on the ratio test above, the value of RUz
that we obtained was bigger than -1.960 and less than 1.960. Therefore, we can conclude
the average and the variance number of visitors who visit Starbucks Coffee and J.CO are
the same.
