CANGO Analysis Week 1 & 2
Introduction
Failure to plan means that you are also planning to fail. The absence of strategic planning,
or poor strategic plans, usually leads to disaster. Simply put, strategic planning is a systematic,
formally documented process for deciding the handful of key decisions that an organization,
viewed as a corporate whole, must get right in order to thrive over the next few years. Diamond
Consulting group have notice that there has been some lack of leadership within the CANGO
Inc.s organization. As a team we have outlined below some recommendations that we feel
should be reviewed and addressed if CANGO is to continue to be successful within the online
gaming industry.
Communication & Delegation
CanGo Company is showing a lack of communication in all departments. In order for the
company to grow and be successful and viable, the communication issue must be addressed. The
lack a serious communication is holding the company back from progress. For example Nick is
not communicating with the other team members on what he needs. Communication is much
needed in a company in order for the company to be successful. Nick clearly needs help because
he is all over the place and not accomplishing anything. By communicating with the other
members he can speed up the progress of the current gaming opportunity for growth. There is too
much talk about personal lives and not enough business talk. Companies are split in to
departments so that specialized individuals can work in the area that they are specialized in. The
most important thing a company needs to know is that in order for a business to be successful it
must implement and maintain an effective communication between departments. There are many

communication ways that the departments can use and they can be oral, written and online
communication. It is very important when using oral communication that the person is clear and
follows up with written memos sent by email to make sure the others dont forget what they were
told. One of the best forms of communications is when directions are written and followed by an
oral explanation this ensures that there is no confusion between the departments. And last it is
very important as well that all the departments know what is going on in the other departments in
order to prevent the duplicate of work or that important things are not overlooked.
The solution is that the team must learn to communicate by scheduling meetings to discuss the
progress and issues that might arise.
Delegation is a task that a person with authority gives another person the power to do a
particular task. Delegation is the strength that CanGo Company must possess in order to ensure a
strong and successful future for the company. As a team leader in a project Nick is not delegating
to the other team members and this issue must be addressed. First a financial analysis must be
completed in order for the tasks to be delegated to the right members and to make sure that there
are enough people in order to prevent overworking of a few which can stop the progress of any
project. The company must assess each member skill and delegate the tasks of the project
accordingly. Delegation helps unload the work load that is on one person to others that are
skilled in that area and that will help move the progress along to a successful result. The lack of
delegation shows that the company has internal weakness, and it must address especially on a
competitive market. The company will fail if the management doesnt address the issues at hand.
Dumping is a problem that shows lack of delegation when the task is given to one person without
proper direction or deadlines. Dumping can lower the staffs morale and makes them feel
unappreciated. This can lead to missed deadlines and loss of current and potential customers.

Nick is not qualified to do the online project alone. He lacks focus and organizational skills he
definitely needs to assess his teams skills and delegate.
The solution is for the team to meet together talk about the issues and concerns with the lack of
delegation. Assess the skills of team members and delegate.
Project Management and Organization Skills
One issue with CanGo is the Project Manager that is assigned to the Gaming Online
project and that is Nick. He has a big problem with organization skills. He is very much
disorganized with his papers and with the project for getting into the online gaming market. He
displays this in the video when Gail and Debbie come over to Nicks desk and it is a mess. There
are papers everywhere and Gail is handing him papers. Debbie states Do you need a little
organizational help? Nick then confirms that is the case (Scharp, 2005). This shows that Nick
wants to improve in this area.
Recommendations to Improve Organization Skills
As stated above Nick is aware of his issues and that is a good start for him to improve in
this area. The first step that Nick needs to address is cleaning off his desk to ensure he has a
clean work space. He should begin by filing his papers in categories, so he knows where
everything is and can get to it easily. This will help him greatly in managing the Gaming Online
project. As stated by Brian Tracy who is recognized by his successful sales training techniques
and personal authority, resolve to improve your organizational skills and use a filing system
both at home and at work. As much as 30 percent of working time today is spent looking for
misplaced items (Tracy, 2012). This is a lot of productivity time lost, because you are searching
for items. This is again why Nick needs to practice by cleaning of his desk. He needs to attend

trainings and seminars about organization skills, so he can learn the techniques to be better. This
will help him be better at managing projects and his work going forward.
Time Management & Goal Setting
Amongst the other noted issues, we recognized that CanGo seemed to have a huge issue
with their time management. Time management is the planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of
tasks to create work efficiency in an environment of competing demands. (Comstock, 2015.)
This most likely stems from their lack of proper communication and organization, so improving
upon those things as implicated will also help them better improve their time management. How
we recognized the time management issues was that the manager of CanGo just threw this major
project and its entire components to Nick without a set time frame, and mentioned that There
was plenty of time for planning yet seemed to need it in a rush by calling it top priority. These
kinds of time management can be confusing for employees. Nick was not able to come up with a
time management plan, such as the Gantt chart before his peers stepped in. Its important to
make sure that the employees you are giving large tasks to are up to the challenge and have
adequate time management to step up and handle the delegated tasks, as mentioned previously.
The Journal of Consumer Research conducted a series of lab tests to show that the best way to
get things done is to get them started, and in this research they showed that when solid deadlines
are initiated then the task is much more likely to get completed. (Yanping, 2014.) Time
management needs to start at the top and work its way down to the other team members. Nick
should have been giving clean instructions from the beginning.
To piggyback off of CanGo needing to learn to be more efficient with their time
management, they also need to be more efficient with their goal setting. Setting deadlines can fall
under both time management and Goal setting because meeting deadlines are often in companies

considered goals or milestones. However, the goal setting issues start much before Nicks new
online gaming project. From the first episode we learned that CanGo did not have clear goals set
because when it came time to sit down and explain how they became successfully she was
unable to state how they did so, what got them started. Also the goals provided to the team
during the implementation meeting for online gaming where every vague, and there was no
financial information to back up any claims of possible profit. The only clear goal is customer
service, and staying profitable. According to Peter Vander Bos, a successful business man and the
CEO of his own fortune 500 company, a good company knows to build their goals using the
SMART method. Make sure your goals are smart, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, and time
sensitive. (Vander Bos, 201.) This encompasses all of the items we have hit on thus far for
CanGo. After the goals have clearly been set, CanGo can get back on track with their goals and
help improve their organization as a company by implementing a management operating system.
This will realign objectives and actions of the organization to better meet the goals that they set
forth. (Yang, 2012.)
Conclusion
In conclusion Diamond Consulting group wants to reinforce to CANGO Inc. the
importance of strategic planning. It is vital that planning should be done in the initial stages of
any new changes within the company for the corporate whole, not for its parts. Once everyone
gets on the same page about what their overall objectives they will be able to set more realistic
objectives that may sometimes be demanding but attainable. Growth can also be accelerated and
improved when the employees are better able to identify and analyze certain opportunities and
potential threats. Once these 6 issues are addressed by Nick and his team then he will have the
tools necessary to perform this new implementation project for CANGO.
