Observe and draw the specimens of earthworm, cockroach, bony fish and bird
showing a specific feature and an adaptive feature.
1. Earthworm:
2. Cockroach:
1. It has 3 pairs of jointed legs , two pairs of wings. The outer wings are leathery,
but the inner ones are thin and membranous.
2 The body is dorsoventrally flattened and is divided into 3 parts: head, thorax,
and abdomen.
3. It has one pair of compound eye
5.The jointed legs make it a runner and its wings enable it to fly for a short
distance.
6. Male cockroach has a pair of anal style which is absent in female cockroach.
7. The body is covered with a well developed exoskeleton of chitinous plates.
3. Bony fish:
1.The contour of the body is streamlined so that it can swim without much
resistance.
2.Fins also help in swimming.
3The gills are located just behind the head on the lateral sides. The gills are
covered by an operculum. Gills enable the fish to obtain oxygen dissolved in
water, and expel the carbon dioxide produced in the body.
4. Body has scales which may be embedded under the skin. These
Scales make the body water proof.
4. Bird (Pigeon)
1. No teeth in the jaws.
2. The forelimbs are modified into wings (which are covered with feathers) which
help in flight.
3. They have a tail which help change direction during flight.
4. They have a streamlined body which helps in flight.
5. They have a beak which help to cut through air, in eating and
crushing food.
6. There are scales in the hind limbs.
