Internship Reflection 2
Fall 2015, EDET 650
November 23, 2015
Goal Progress
The past two weeks have flown by and I cannot believe I am almost half way through the
internship. I have been making sufficient progress towards my internship goal in providing
parents with proper training to utilize the programs available at Myrtle Beach Elementary. Over
the past two weeks I have still been in the design and development phase of the ADDIE model. I
have designed an outline for two of the online programs, ALEKS Math and Raz-Kids as well as
having developed tutorial videos for both. In addition to designing these videos, I finalized the
development of my parent training presentation which was created on Google Slides with
hyperlinks to each program. I held the parent training workshop on November 17th to walk the
parents through each of the programs that their children are currently using. I had a brief slide on
each program with the main points I wanted to discuss and used it as a guide. After each slide
the program was shown and a step by step demonstration of each one. In preparation for this
workshop I created an agenda with a section for the parents to take notes for each program. In
addition, I created a QR code and pasted it at the end of this agenda for all parents to scan to
access the YouTube Channel. Overall I felt the training went well and the parents provided
feedback on the exit slip I created. In having an exit slip I was able to focus on the evaluation
phase of the ADDIE model to determine if the training was beneficial or not. Parents that
attended indicated the presentation was very informative and they also wrote down any
additional questions that they had.
Learning Reflection
I am continuing to learn each week while completing my internship! I was able to meet
with my mentor to discuss my progress in creating the tutorials and she showed me additional
applications that are available with Google. I was explaining to her how I was happy with the
way my presentation came out using Google Slides. Then she showed me how her digital
integration team uses Google Plus to communicate and share other ideas they have with using
technology. She was explaining how this could be something I could utilize in the future with
my school as it is a form of social media all in one place. It was interesting to see how her team
was using this and the technology ideas they have shared within the program. I also learned
from Dr. Smyth a way to improve my tutorial videos in the future. I will no longer have the dock
at the bottom of my screen visible since it looks more professional when it is hidden. Along the
way of making my videos I decided to incorporate iMovie with QuickTime to produce each
tutorial. I found at first that my videos needed a little something extra so I thought of adding a
title slide and some transitions into the recordings. I found that in using iMovie I was able to
blend the clips together smoothly and export the videos very easily into YouTube. It has been a
few months since I have used iMovie and I am not an expert with this program. I had to research
the best way to edit the clips of the video to make the transition as smooth as possible. I had to
re-record myself quite a few times because I was not articulating my instructions as clearly as I
wanted.
In researching for my annotated bibliography I learned a great amount regarding the use
of technology and student engagement. I found one article particularly interesting with the idea

of having students be the designers of the online games they use in the classroom. The author
discussed that in having students be the creators, we would be able to see how they view the
curriculum and incorporate material in a way that is of high interest to them. I also learned from
my research other ways to apply technology in my classroom. Overall, I am continuing to learn
more and more as each week goes by from my mentor and research. I am excited to see how the
second half of the semester progresses with my tutorial videos.
