Throughout the history of aviation industry, airports and planes
have been used for terror attacks and many criminal and prohibited

activities. Many examples were found including terrorists or groups of

specific concerns who used aviation for smuggling purposes or to capture
the political attention. Aviation is important to support the economic
sustainability of business world, passenger movement and cargo services.
In result, it is important for the persons engaged with aviation security to
be more proactive in developing critical and crucial system which helps
to alleviate those kinds of activities.
The aviation security system is a combination of sequential and overlying
working aspects that must be protected by safety staff. These working
aspects ma y include the customer needs management like luggage check,
security screening, parking and other requirements. There must be
synchronization among the security staff responsible for their respective
areas. As aviation is an important part of international transportation, the
variety of procedures and security s ystems should be developed to
evaluate efficiency.
Although industry is complex in nature, its infrastructure includes
airplane setups, airports and associated agencies. Different airplanes are
used in different purposes. Some commonly known categories are
commercial assistance, general aviation and military aviation.
The most examined and highly visible part of aviation security s ystem is
screening. Screening is the most interfering part of aviation security
system among all the layers. It also proved effective in discouraging
attacks. In the past decades screening of luggage and passengers has been

Aviation Security

the keystone of aviation security s ystem. Many meanings have been

incorporated with the term screening. Inspection of passengers physically
and technical inspections are commonly known. However, other forms
may include checking history of airport staff, matching of luggage
positively and smooth the security programs.
Aviation security system also faced unique challenges on operational
level. The need of air transportation to move globally produce security
threats. Every year millions of people and tons of goods are transported
around the world. These massive movements generate many threats to the
airline security at operational level.
The variation in understanding the level of general aviation is a big
challenge in developing laws and policies regarding the security issues.
The general aviation flights vary greatly. The general aviation flights
normally include corporate business planes, skydiving, flights training
airplanes. The definition of general aviation varies globally. General
aviation consists of all air operations except military related operation
for the purpose of security legislations.
