The Industry we selected for our MIS Project is

Crescent Bahuman

Ltd.
Why its called Crescent Bahuman.
Bahuman is a village of central Punjab situated in the Pindi Bhattian District Hafizabad.
This village is two centuries old, according to the facts and figures, when Sikh Ruler Raja
Ranjit Singh attacked on Hafizabad in 1802 he brought the area of Pindi Bhattian under his
supervision also. Later on, he captured all the Punjab. Some people say that Bahuman
was the water Channel of Chenab River once and Bahuman was established by a Dervish
(Saint) named Baho on the bank of the river. In Punjabi, Maan is the bank of the river and
since Baho was his name the area was given the name Bahuman. But this story could not
be confirmed because there isnt any shrine of any Saint

Introduction to Industry
The crescent group has ascertained an outstanding reputation in Pakistan business

Founded in 1995, CBL is recognized as the first fully integrated denim plant in Pakistan.
This company has pioneered the local denim industry by advocating and promoting
concepts of tolerance and compliance to its people .
Subsequently, crescent bahuman has established strong cooperative values for the
betterment of nearly 8000 employees and community while ensuring an environmental
friendly manufacturing process. The result has helped CBL attain a unique blend of highly
motivated individuals well equipped with a global perspective, thus enable us to aptly
service any customers needs worldwide.
Its core business consist of exporting high quality fabric and Jeanswear to the Eurpean,
US, Australian and Asian pacific regions. Through the use of high-tech equipments and
modern techniques. This company is able to coop up the latest trends without
compromising on quality. This equips up to be the preferred choice of worlds top denim
brands.
This company has own power plant that gives us the ability to control and maintain an
uninterrupted power supply. Emissions analysis is carried out annually to monitor the
system.
CBL is dedicated to invest in both the employees professional skills and personal
development. This company offers our employees a tailored mix of on and off-the job
training. Besides providing internal training programs, employees are sent to the external
training sessions arranged by different institutions. This is the first textile company in

Pakistan to implement six-segma business philosophy and get our employees trained as
black belts in various function areas.
The visitors can easily approach our facility by using Lahore-Islamabad motorway as this is
located at 100 minutes from Lahore airport and 200 minutes from Islamabad airport.

Introduction to Business
Crescent bahuman has two major Units as below. Their details and product ranges are as
below.

Textile
Research and development

CBLs R and D team is always busy in getting and implementing new and innovative ideas.
Their development process is driven by addressing the global market trends and
producing fabrics which encompass wash flexibility and performance.
They research with industry experts, attend fabric fair worldwide and include all influences
which are important to their customers. This department has a strong coordination with
production facility to ensure fabric compliance and establish efficiency and development
improvement.

Product Range
CBL has established a broad range of fabrics with covers all sectors in the garment need
for denim.
They produce fabric from6-0z/yd2 to 16-0z/yd2 in different colours and character options.
The colour spectrum varies from very dark indigoes to light blues, dark black to grey, and
blends of blue and green.

Operational capabilities
Spinning
This company in-house spinning facility plays an imperative role in offering shorter leads
time and quick deliveries . This company produce over 22 mn IBS /annum of open end and
ring yarns.

Dyeing
This company produce 20 meters /annum with a single dye range of 33 ropes. Its a wide
shade spectrum that covers pure indigo from lighter to dark deep saturated tones and
blend of sulphur bottoming and topping shades.

Weaving
This process of fabric production is backed by the most advanced sulzer projectile and air
jet looms that help us to produce 19 million meter of greige fabric per annum.this set up is
fully adaptable to make fabrics with different designs fromRHS.LHS to broken twills and
herring bones.

Finishing
This company has state of the art of finishing range that is capable to produce 18 million
meters of finished fabrics per annum with different finishing types from regular Mill, wash
and mercerization to various resin treatments and pigment coatings for softness and
sheen on the fabric surface.

Grading and packing


This company has follow four point American system for fabric grading with help of 7
inspection lines.
Standard packing is done on paper tube in polythene by auto splicing and auto sealing.
Currently this company in the expansion phase and afro mentioned capacities will be
doubled by the end of financial year 2010-2011.

Apparel
Product Development
The product development finishing center (inspiration studio) comprises of 3 main teams,
innovation and inspiration, product development transition.
Innovation and inspiration
This team is responsible for creating inspirational innovations for both the CBL collections
(inspiration) and customer specific developments as seasonal trends or initial collections
for new clients.
Product development
This team is responsible to carry out the day to day developments, taking inspirations and
applying the necessary adjustments as desired by the clients maturing the product,
ensuring its compliance ready for mass production.
Transition
Transition team is responsible to transfer approved finishes, techniques and provide
training of methodologies in a production environment. They ensure that the desired
concepts are captured and maintained under production conditions and progressive
environment
Operational capabilities (Apparel)
With state-of-the-art hardware, they exhibit an excellent transformation of technology and
art into reality. There is hardly any technique that they lack. CBL is not only learning
everyday but leading the excellence with one of the best industrialized engineered textile
setup.

They are operating with below mentioned capabilities.


Cutting
They have fully automated cutting machines which enable cutting of nearly 10.8 million
pieces per annum.
Sewing
The sewing operation strictly operates on standard minute values, PITS (Production
incentives and tracking system & RFID (Radio frequency identification) are used in the
sewing department to track all stages of production and is also used as a quality control
tool. Extensive inline QC system is developed which operates in such manner that each
and every bundle passes through five inline inspection stations.
Garments Wet Processing
Here they convert raw jeans into living pair of garment with assistance of worlds leading
professionals, highly sophisticated equipment and day and night workmanship. They
believe to craft each pair of jeans by applying all possible treatments like washing, sand
blasting, scraping, whickering, spray, resin, curing and laser treatment.
Garments manufacturing capacity is also in expansion stage which will lead them to
produce 15 million pieces per year with a wide variety of denim and no denim products.
Quality Control
CBL places highest emphasis on consistent quality by incorporating efficient and flexible
processed to ensure customer satisfaction. Total quality managements is achieved
through effective control and continuous improvement of every process.

CBL has 2 major competitors
1- US Apparel Ltd.
US apparel is the main competitor of CBL as they also have wide range of product
catalogue in the field of denim industry.
2- AZ guard Ltd.
AZ guard is the second and almost last competitor of CBL, but they have been
facing some administratively issues nowadays and they are in struggling state.

Below is the short functional summary of all zones

Textile
As already described above, textile zone covers from cotton spinning to finished fabric
inventory. This zone uses the manufacturing module of ERP. Major organization of textile
zone is below
1-Spining: it converts raw cotton into yarn.
2-Weaving: it weaves yarn and produce greige fabric.
3-Dyeing and finishing: Here greige fabric is dyed and final finishing is done.
4-Grading: Here final finished fabric is Graded as A grade, B grade, C grade etc.

Apparel
This zone covers from fabric cutting to garments packing. RFID based PITS system is being
used here in this zone. The major organizations/processes
1-cutting: Fabric is being issued from textile inventory against garment order and cut as
per order quality required.CBL has fully atomized Gerber cutter for fabric cutting as per
patterns.
2-Sewing:Cuts produced in cutting and being transferred in sewing for garments
production.CBL has state of the art sewing floors for garments production and fully
atomized production incentive and tracking system is sewing department.
3-Wet processing: Sew garments are transferred in GWP(Garment wet processing) division
for washing, scrapping or any other related process and then finally the garments are
packed in cartons here for shipping.

HRM (Human resource management)


HR Zone is responsible for recruitment, policy making, and services etc. This zone uses
the HRMS (Human resource management system module) of the ERP. The major
departments/processes of HR are as below.
1-Core human Resources: Manage human resources, hiring firing and resolution of
employees issues and policy making for smooth working.
2-Administration: This section covers all administrative matters.
3-IR (Industrial relation): it covers all the legal affairs of organization.

4-Services: It covers all the services related issues provided by CBL like Mess, transport,
residence etc.

PI (product integrity)
Product integrity department is responsible for products developments for sampling
purpose plus the base level working required for product costing. SMV (standard minute
values) working of all operations is also responsibility of this department, on the basis of
which Operators incentives are calculated. This zone is using IE and PD modules of ERP.

Supply chain
Supply chain is responsible for purchasing of order related materials and planning for intime availability of materials required for orders as well as procurement of general items.
This zone is also responsible for all inventories and issuance of materials required by
different departments. They are using PIS (Purchase and Inventory module) of ERP.

Sales and marketing


This department is responsible for orders confirmations with customers and taking new
orders from customer as well as the sale of the left stock in inventory. This zone uses CRM
(Customer Relationship Management) module of ERP.

Finance
This department is responsible for all the cash management and finance related issues. It
also coordinates with banks for customers payments as well as supplier payments. Oracle
financial is being used for all financial transactions and reporting purposes in this zone.
This zone also has internal audit section which ensures the smooth and fraudulence free
working at each and every step.

Research and Development


This organization covers the research and development related work to attract new
customers and to complete the enquiries of customers.

Engineering
This organization covers all the engineering related issues. It is also responsible for plant
assets maintenance.
It has major 3 division i.e

1. Mechanical
2. Electronica
3. Power generation.

We have selected IT as major organization for our project.

Information Technology
CBL IT has 2 major sections i-e Network System and software development
section.
1- Network systems are responsible for networking and general tasks like
troubleshooting, installation, Email services, and Surveillance and user trainings. There
is at least 500 Computers network at Plant and 50 Computers network at Head Office
in Lahore and both the networks are interlinked through intranet.
2- Software development section is responsible for ERP support and new development of
systems as per the requirement of user departments if any.
It is the backbone of CBL as there is no manual working in CBL either CBL IT has
implemented complete ERP (Enterprise Resource planning) system. ERP is an
integrated system which covers all the working/processes of organization.CBL has
customized ERP system which has below major Modules.
1) HRMS (Human Resource Management System)
2) PIS (Purchase and Inventory system)
3) Manufacturing system
4) Financials system
5) PITS (Production Incentive and Tracking System)

6) Plant Machinery Maintenance System

The IT infrastructure is the key area which distinguishes CBL from its competitors.
Below are some of the major IT achievements and implementations of CBL IT.
1- RFID based Production and Incentives system.
CBL is the pioneer in Pakistan for RFID based production and incentive system
implementations.
This is the standard product of a zymetry corporation.
2- ERP System
CBL has fully integrated ERP system which covers almost all the processes and data
processing of organization.
3- Maximo
CBL is the only textile industry in Pakistan which has implemented IBMs standard
product Maximo for
plant machinery maintenance.
4- Oracle Business Intelligence
CBL IT has deployed oracles Business intelligence tools for analytical reporting which
enables
management to forecast about different trends which ultimately helps in decision
making issues.
