Phase A: Architecture Vision describes the initial phase of an Architecture Deve

lopment Cycle. It includes information about defining the scope, identifying the
stakeholders, creating the Architecture Vision, and obtaining approvals.
The Statement of Architecture Work is created as a deliverable of Phase A.
This document is a response to the Request for Architecture Work input document.
Business scenarios are an appropriate and important technique that can be used a
s part of the process in developing an Architecture Vision document
Business Transformation Readiness Assessment is carried out in phase A
Before embarking upon a detailed Architecture Definition, it is valuable to unde
rstand the baseline and target capability level of the enterprise. This Capabili
ty Assessment is first carried out in Phase A, and updated in Phase E.
Identification of business transformation risks and mitigation activities is fir
st determined in Phase A.
Phase E: Opportunities and Solutions conducts initial implementation planning an
d the identification of delivery vehicles for the architecture defined in the pr
evious phases
Phase F: Migration Planning addresses the formulation of a set of detailed seque
nce of Transition Architectures with a supporting Implementation and Migration P
lan.
Phase G: Implementation Governance provides an architectural oversight of the im
plementation.
Phase H: Architecture Change Management establishes procedures for managing chan
ge to the new architecture.
Architecture Roadmap
TOGAF defines an enterprise as any collection of organizations that has
a common set of goals.
Why do I need EA:
refer to Official guide section 2.5
What is Architecture Framework:
Refer section2.6 , Official Guide
. In TOGAF, architecture has two meanings depending upon the context:
1. A formal description of a system, or a detailed plan of the system at a compo
nent level to guide its implementation
2. The structure of components, their inter-relationships, and the principles an
d guidelines governing their design and evolution over time
However, before TOGAF can be effectively used within an architecture project, ta
iloring at a number of levels is necessary and should occur in the Preliminary p
hase.
Firstly, it is necessary to tailor the TOGAF model for integration into the ente
rprise.
Once the framework has been tailored to the enterprise, further tailoring is nec
essary in order to tailor the framework for the specific architecture project. T
ailoring at this level will select appropriate deliverables and artifacts to mee
t project and stakeholder needs.
The Preliminary Phase describes the preparation and initiation activities requir
ed to prepare to meet the business directive for new enterprise architecture, in
cluding the definition of an Organization-Specific Architecture framework and th
e definition of principles. An important deliverable produced in the Preliminary
phase is the Organizational Model for Enterprise Architecture.
Request for Architecture Work
This is a document that is sent from the sponsoring organization to the architec

ture organization to trigger the start of an architecture development cycle. It

is produced with the assistance of the architecture organization as an output of
the Preliminary Phase
