Resource Development Update Continued:
- Golf Committee Co-Chair Scott Jacobson reported on the Jan 15, 2016 Golf Challenge and that there
is still room for one more two person team as well additional sponsors. He asked that if anyone had
22 of any item to go in the golfer goody bags to please consider making those available by
contacting Glenn Permuy (gpermuy@bgca.org 678-641-3769). Items such as shirts, golf towels,
golf balls, shirts, hats, visors, umbrellas, wine, gift certificates, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
The goal is to raise $60,000.
- Marc Spencer reported that the Yankee Lunch is set for March 22, 2016 and that information is
already coming out on this.
Roger Robson gave an update on the Heritage Club. He thanks the 30 members of the Club, and
asked that everyone reference the materials in the packets. He stressed the need to act on this as soon
as possible and the ease by which this is possible. He offered his personal help if anyone had
questions.
Board Development Committee Chairman Chris Roederer reported that the committee is seeking a
motion to have the board accept Keith Harris, VP of HR at Tampa Bay Lightning as a new Corporate
Board Member. A motion to that effect was made by Joe Garcia and seconded by Vic Holcomb and
passed unanimously.
Chris Letsos shared the Presidents Report and provided an updated on the organization including an
overview of the Be the Spark Strategic Plan as well as the year-to-date dashboard and organization
scorecard. All targets are being met or exceeded.
Special Presentations and report were made by Marlene Spalten, President and CEO of the
Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. She presented a $100k check to Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa
Bay for the Lacoochee Club and comments were also made by Foundation Trustee Bob Blanchard
who started an endowment for that Club and he recognized the great work of Ron Deese who
accompanied him and Marlene for a photo opportunity.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America Chief Operating Officer - Lorraine Orr shared an overview of the
National organization and the parallel work that is being done in Tampa Bay as the Be the Spark
Strategic Plan mirrors that of the National organization. She thanked the boards for their good work
and indicated that Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay was among the top 30 organizations out of 1149
Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide who collectively operate over 4200 Clubs and reach 4 million youth
each year.
A motion by Armando Roche was seconded by Joe Garcia to adjourn the meeting and move next
door to the celebration reception honoring (1) Heritage Club Members, (2) new President Chris
Letsos and (3) retired President Brad Baumgardner. The motion passed unanimously and a wonderful
reception hosted by the Steinbrenner Family and the New York Yankees followed from 4:50pm until
6:30pm
