Operational Precautions:
a) Read and understand this instruction manual before operating instrument.
b) This manual should be kept in a convenient place for all persons to borrow as
needed for operation or maintenance. Return manual to storage location after each
use.
c) Maintenance procedures or parts used that are not in accordance with this
instruction manual may cause unsafe or failed operation of this monitor. Riken
assumes no responsibility for accidents that may occur as a result of improper
maintenance procedures, or procedures not in agreement with this manual.
d) Since this monitor is safety equipment, it is important to make this daily checks as
outlined in this manual. If any trouble or abnormality is found, contact Riken or the
nearest Riken agent for assistance.

1. PRODUCT OUTLINE
1-1. In the beginning
This is important manual to operate the gas monitor model GP-641A to keep the performance of the unit, to
increase the reliability of the unit. The record of the checking result and the treatment of this should be kept
and, use them for next checking, planning for repair and improvement of the equipment. It is kindly requested
to keep the safety enough consideration at instrumentation even when the work failure or accidents etc takes
place by inadvertent factors and disconnection of power and signal cables.
Identification of each cautionary marks
DANGER
WARNING
This is non explosion-proof equipment. Do not use for gas detection above
LEL.
When the safety caution for electric equipment is not kept, it makes serious
damage on the human body or equipment.
CAUTION
1) When the operation and treatment are not performed as on the manual, it
may make the damage on the human body or equipment. When modified or
genuine parts are not used for repair, they do harm on the detector. If
cause accidents by them, this is far from our responsibility.
2) Follow the operation purpose of 1-2.
3) Take advance treatment so that any operation error and damage taken
place by the cut of power supply cable and/or unexpected accident.
4) As this is electrical applied product, these are the rare case affected by
electric noise, static and electro-magnetic noise and take care of it. In
such place installation, take advance treatment for protection in advance.

Detector head
Do not use any detector head except specified detector head. Gas detection can not be done. This
monitor or detector head shall be damaged.
Power source
Before power on, check that the power source voltage is within the given voltage and then,
make power on.
Fuse
For protection of security, use the designated rating (power current, power voltage, type) fuse. The
replacement of fuse shall be done after turning power switch (POWER switch) off. Do not use other fuse
than the specified or make short-circuit fuse holder.
Operation in gas
Do not operate in the place where combustible gas or explosive gas vapors should exist. It is very
dangerous to operate in such an atmosphere.
External connection
After making sure protection ground, connect to external control circuit or detection objective.

4. OPERATION
4-1. Before operation
Not only a first experienced client but also an experienced client shall keep the cautionary items. If not kept,
the trouble may cause and could not make normal gas detection.
CAUTION
Do not install where direct sun beam is given or there is drastic change of temperature
When install, avoid the direct sun beam place or that of drastic change of temperature. Because dew
takes place inside of instrument and it may not follow the drastic change of temperature.
Do not install where the vibration or shock may take place.
As this is composed of fine electronics parts, install where the vibration and shock should not
take place and be stable.
Separate the detector from the noise generating source (Main unit and cable).
Do not install and make gas detection at the place where the sample gas is deposited. In this
case, make as detection by extending the sampling hose etc.
Dangerous place at maintenance service such as high voltage cable
This instrument is required to make maintenance regularly. Then do not install at the place
where there is danger at maintenance time.
The place where unable to make maintenance
When required to stop the system at maintenance time, unable to maintain if not remove a
part of system or unable to detach the case due to the pipe or rack etc, do not install such
place.
12
INS-1509E (REV1.0)
CAUTION
Unstable power and noise may cause error of performance and alarm.
For the system to use this detector, it is required to make design based on this
manual description.

Contact part of relay is melted adhesively and the contacts can no work.
High voltage is put inside of indicator/alarm unit and then, unspecific electrical parts may be
damaged.
As it is big noise, the trouble action may be taken by the reckless drive of CPU.
Irrespective of inductive load, there is the possibility of unforeseeable noise intrusion for contacts.
Above trouble may be generated.
CAUTION

l
The inductive load shall not be used in principle (Do not use fluorescent lamp and motor).
When use the inductive load, make the contact amplification outside, but the outside relay coil
belongs to the inductive load, use the relay driven by the low voltage (within AC100V) and it is
protected by an appropriate surge killer.

When make wiring construction, make caution not to damage the internal electronics circuit.
Applicable cable between indicator/alarm unit and detector head is CVV 1.25sq or 2sq (4C). In
case of using other cable than specified, it is out of warranty.
For power input cable, pump power cable, external output signal cable, they should be used
separately and should not put in same core.
For power cable, detector cable, signal cable, they should not be laid out with motive power cable
such as motor etc.
Power output for pump of detector head should not be used for other instruments.
And,
applicable power supply voltage of pump of detector head should be same as the one of
