also be eligible. Congregate dining provides an opportunity for people
to enjoy a nutritious meal in the company of their peers. Planned social
activities are enjoyed at each meal site and informational programming is
regularly provided. Reservations can be made by calling the meal site one
day in advance. Home-delivered meals provide balanced meals to people
who are homebound, unable to shop for themselves and have no other
way to have a meal prepared for them. Hot meals, delivered at midday,
are available as well as frozen meals for weekends. If interested in HDMs,
contact the Shawano County Department of Human Services at

Recreation trails
Two excellent state trails run through Shawano County:
• The Mountain-Bay State Trail. Out of its 83 miles of a former rail-
road corridor, from Rib Mountain to Green Bay, 53 miles are in Shawano
County. The trail in the county runs from the village of Pulaski to the
village of Eland.
• The Wiouwash State Trail is also a former railroad corridor, the result
of a cooperative effort among Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca and Sha-
wano counties. The Shawano County portion contains 20.9 miles, which
extend from Birnamwood to a mile and a half south of Split Rock.
The Shawano County sections are designated for hiking, bicycling,
horseback riding and wheelchairs in the summer, and snowmobiling and
all-terrain vehicles in the winter.
For information on either of these trails, visit the Shawano County
website at www.co.shawano.wi.us or call the Shawano County Planning
and Development Department at 715-526-6766.
Nonresident (of Wisconsin) snowmobilers trail passes cost $13 in order
to go on any of the designated state trails. There is a fee for using the state
trails. Passes must be purchased by people 16 and older who are riding
bikes, horses or horse-drawn buggies. Annual state trail passes cost $20 and
are available at the Shawano County clerk’s office and at various mer-
chants throughout the county. They are good for all state trails.
Daily passes can also be obtained on the trails for a fee of $3 per day.
There are 13 boxes along the span of the trails where daily passes can be Lee Pulaski
purchased. Two hikers make use of the Shawano segment of the Mountain Bay Trail.
