Projectile motion in Real-life situation. Kinematics of basketball shooting.

Abstract
Projectile motion is ome of the most basic topics taught in physics. Basketball shooting
is one of the simplest ways to demonstrate the said topic. In this research, one would
know the equation used to come up with the accurate measurements. One would also
discuss the association of the three significant factors, namely, the initial velocity,
height of the ball and its optimal angle. By imcreasing the height of the ball, the two
remaining factors, optimal angle and initial velocity would have to be decreased.
Background of the study
Objectives
-To determine the diffference between optimal anhle im basketball shooting from the
optimal angle im ground to ground projectile motion
-to determine if two basic styles of shooting would affect the projectile motion
-to discuss the relationship between optimal angle, minimim initial velocity and the
height pf the ball before shooting.
Hypothesis
-Equations and calculations were formulated to determine the right angle, velocity and
height for one to be able to shoot a ball.
(Equations)
Methods
The researchers made several equations and figures to demonstrate how they solved
their hypothesis. They conducted the test by substituting the variables of the equations
to actual analytical numbers. They tested their hypothesis by calculating the equation
with the given numbers. The method yhey used involves mathematics because by
doing so they could discover the precise measurement to shoot a ball.
Results
By substituting the right quantity of the optimal angle, minimum initial velocity and the
height of the ball into the equation formulated, helped the researchers find out the
accurate measurements. Air resistance and the force from the spinning motion of the
ball were ignored. By increasing the height of the ball before shooting it, one would
have to decrease the value of the optimal angle and minimum initial velocity.
Conclusion
The three factors (optimal angle, minimum initial velocity and height of the ball) affects
the over-all projectile motion of the ball. There hypothesis supported there results
because it solved the objectives that the researchers were trying to find out.
The next step in their investigation could be to include the air resitance and force due
to the spinning motion of the ball as it was thrown to simulate or relate it to real-life
situations.
Significance of the study
It is important in a way that it could be related to actually shooting the ball by being
aware of the mathematics involved in the situation one could be able to accurately

shoot a ball. It could also be used in firing up missiles, if it were to be done ome should
just calculate the three factors and shoot.
