Addenda to the Syllabus in Introduction to Philosophy (INTFILO)

I

Classroom Policies
a. Students who are not in their assigned seats will be considered ABSENT.
b. All are strongly advised to consult the syllabi (departmental AND the addenda).
c. Late and electronic submissions are not allowed. These submissions will be thrown outside the
building.
d. All policies stipulated in the handbook regarding absences, behavior, plagiarism, cheating in any
form, etc. will be implemented. Students who misbehave will be sent to the DOs office to secure
a permit that will enable them to be admitted on the following meeting. Said students cannot
attend subsequent classes without the permit. On the other hand, a student disobeying the policies
against academic dishonesty (i.e. cheating and/or plagiarism) will receive a final grade of 0.0 and
a D.O. case.
e. Working assumption: Everyone agrees to respect everyone else as a person whose ideas are worth
expressing. The objective is to promote an environment in which everyone can freely express. We
are not obliged to accept uncritically everyones opinion. Personal tolerance is expected,
intellectual agreement is not.
f. Everybody is expected to read the assigned reading materials. Students who do not have the
physical copy of the material will be sent outside. Readings can be found either at the Philosophy
Department (Faculty Center 4th Floor) or downloaded in official Facebook group.
g. Final grades are not negotiable. Tears cannot save you. The professor can change a grade due to
the following reasons: wrong encoding and miscalculation. For reasons other than these, the grade
is retained.
h. In case a student missed a quiz and lessons, the student should consult the professor as soon as
s/he comes to class for chances of making up. Only students who have legitimate excuse letters
signed by their respective vice-deans will be entertained. However, there are no such things as
special seatworks.

Incentives
a. Incentives will be given on the following instances:
i. Complete requirements (+.5 final grade),
ii. Attendance to approved activities of any Cultural Arts Office (CAO) group AND submission
of a one-paged reflection paper with an attached ticket (+1 each paper to be added to
raw score)
iii. Attendance AND submission of a one-paged reflection paper with an attached ticket (+1
each paper to be added to raw score) to any Philosophy Department organized lecture.
Notes:
Submitted papers should be reflective in nature and should follow the following standard format:
i. Paper: USED short bond paper.
ii. Font Style and Size: Trebuchet / 11
iii. Spacing: Single space

This subject will use the following grading system and table of grades:
Long Quizzes: 40%
Class Participation: 60%
Group Activities: 30
Recitation/FB Group: 10
Assignments/Seatworks: 20
TOTAL: 100%
