Impact of Maternal and Child Health Private Expenditure on Poverty and Inequity Review of the Literature on the Extent and Mechanisms by which Maternal, Newborn, and Child Healthcare Expenditures Exacerbate Poverty, with Focus on Evidence from Asia and the Pacific Reducing the burden of poor maternal, neonatal, and child ill-health requires improvements in both the supply and use of effective maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services. This study undertook a systematic review of the impact on families of out-of-pocket expenditures in accessing MNCH care. The findings show that despite improved coverage in the region, many families continue to face financial barriers to accessing essential care, and experience significant financial hardships as a result of outof-pocket payments.

Health continued Impact of Out-of-Pocket Expenditures on Families and Barriers to Use of Maternal and Child Health Services in Asia and the Pacific Evidence from National Household Surveys of Healthcare Use and Expenditures The burden of poor maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) remains unacceptably high in many developing member countries. To understand the barriers facing households in accessing MNCH care, data from routine national household expenditure surveys (Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste) were analyzed. The findings reveal not only the rich evidence base available, but also show the effects of healthcare costs, quality, and physical barriers in preventing access.

An Evaluation of the Electronic Pension Payment System in Tajikistan In 2009, Tajikistan became one of the first countries in Central Asia to implement electronic payments to pensioners. This study shows that the new system has had positive effects, especially on perceived convenience and wait times.
