Call for IPSF Internship with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP)

About FIP
The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is a global federation of
national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. That is,
associations from all over the world are members of FIP. Through them, FIP
represents three million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. The
mission of FIP is to advance pharmacy practice, the pharmaceutical sciences
and pharmacy education through advocacy and leadership.
This is accomplished through the initiatives of those who work for FIP and
through prestigious partnerships with other leading, global organisations such
as the World Health Organization and UNESCO. FIP has its main headquarters
in The Hague, the Netherlands, with staff coordinating or conducting projects, the annual FIP
congresses, publications and marketing and communication activities. Most of FIPs work is done on
site in The Hague, but its reach covers all corners of the world through the work of volunteer officers
who serve on FIPs boards and working groups. Through IPSF, FIP offers pharmacy student(s) the
opportunity to participate in an internship at the FIP main headquarters in The Hague, the

Scope of the Internship
Business and Marketing: The key areas of focus for the FIP Marketing and Business Development
Manager are the creation, development, and implementation of an overall marketing strategy for
FIP. The manager is also responsible for the development, implementation, and integration of new
services within the FIP portfolio. The internship would focus on two main areas:
1. Event marketing for the FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in
Buenos Aires, Argentina (www.fip.org/buenosaires2016) and the Pharmaceutical Sciences
World Congress Stockholm, Sweden (www.fip.org/pswc2017). The aim will be to:
a. Find new target audiences for these congresses studying the market, partners and
stakeholders through company analyses, LinkedIn and other events in the sector;
b. Find content for articles, press releases, social media by following global and local
trends and topics, interviews with speakers, and connecting with the programme
committee;
c. Come up with innovative and creative approaches to reach prospective participants
for these congresses;
d. Work with graphic designers to create advertisements, banners, flyers and other
marketing communication material consistent with the FIP and congress branding.
2. Business development, implementation, integration of new services in the FIP portfolio. The
aim will be to:
a. Identify opportunities for new services/activities for FIP members (individual
members and member organisations) and third parties;
b. Scout internal and external sources for opportunities and design a means of
evaluating these opportunities;
c. Help to manage the first-step-implementation by writing a business plan (including
an implementation plan) and assist/lead a project team until the agreed milestone
has been reached;
d. Help to market the new services/activities in the different FIP target groups.

The timing of the internship and FIP agenda will determine in what stages of the processes the
intern will be involved.
Candidate Profile
The intern should have the following skills/attributes:
Excellent command of both written and spoken English language
A hands-on approach and confidence to take on different projects at the same time
Creativity and problem-solving skills
A strategic communicator who possesses insight and understanding towards our target
groups
An interest in marketing and business development
Expected Time Frame
Minimum duration of the internship: 4-5 months
Beginning of the internship: earliest March 2016.
Eligibility
FIP may accept applicants who meet all of the following conditions as interns:
Applicants who are enrolled in a course of study and are currently undergraduates at an
university or an equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification and who are not
finishing or will finish by the time the internship will take place;
Applicants who are fluent in English and preferably in other working languages of the office
of assignment e.g. French, German, or Spanish
Applicants who are not related to a staff member of FIP (e.g. son/daughter,
brother/sister or mother/father);
Applicants who have not previously participated in FIPs internship programme.
Terms and Conditions of Internship
When accepting an internship, the intern agrees to:
Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct expected of a
person working in an international environment in the context of FIP;
Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on IPSF or FIP and not engage in any
activity that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of either organization;
Provide the receiving programme with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship.
Interns may not disclose or make use of any unpublished or confidential information that
comes to their knowledge in the course of their internship. The provisions relating to texts
prepared for publication apply also to interns;
Submit a written report at the end of the internship to be reviewed by the supervisor and
other interested parties;
Interns are expected to devote themselves full-time to the assignments of the receiving unit
for the period of the internship.
When offering an internship, the receiving programme agrees to:
Ensure that an intern's assignment is related to his/her field of study, relevant for both the
programme and the intern, and at the appropriate level of complexity and variety.
Review progress regularly and provide adequate feedback and coaching/mentoring during
the internship.
Provide office accommodation and related support facilities to enable the intern to
undertake the assignment.
At the end of the internship, prepare a written evaluation of the intern's performance and
provide the intern with feedback.

How to apply for the IPSF-FIP Internship
All IPSF members are eligible to apply. FIP will be responsible for the final selection of applicant(s).
Successful applicant(s) undertaking an internship will not be financially remunerated by IPSF.
However, FIP will provide a small financial allowance (to be determined between FIP and the
selected applicant) for the duration of the internship. The applicant(s) will be responsible for their
own accommodation and travel expenses.
The deadline for this application is the 7 of February 2016 23:59 GMT +0. Additional applications
will be considered after this date if directed by FIP. As part of your application please submit:
A curriculum vitae (CV) in English;
A one-page motivation letter. Please specify your desired length of internship, considering 45 months at minimum, as well as your available start date;
A short text addressing the question (limit 300 words): Why have you decided to study
pharmacy/pharmaceutical sciences?
A maximum two-page A4 (1200 word) essay answering the question: What original ideas do
you have to promote an international pharmacy congress worldwide with a limited
marketing budget?
Please note that all essays must be the original work of the applicant. IPSF reserves
the right to publish the essays received (with acknowledgement of the author);
A reference letter from a preceptor, faculty supervisor, or employment supervisor;
A letter of support from your university;
A Confirmation Letter of membership from the Contact Person of your local/national
association;
A recent photograph.

Coordinator, no later than the 7 of February 2016 23:59 GMT +0. The full application shall be
submitted electronically to internship@ipsf.org under the subject FIP Marketing Internship
2016. Only PDF format of all applications will be accepted.
