PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this calculation is to select rating of Station Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for the
proposed Sabiya 500 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine Project. It will cater to the load of Main Plant
DCS, PLCs of various packages, Instruments and any other AC load of the plant that needs
uninterrupted power supply.
Scope
The scope of this calculation includes sizing of Station Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for the
proposed Sabiya 500 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine Project.

DESIGN INPUTS
2.1
Owners specification / Tender document, Doc. No.: MEW/8-2012/2013.

UPS load list from C&I.
3.0
ASSUMPTIONS/CONSIDERATIONS [U-UNVERIFIED INPUT, EJ-ENGINEERING

JUDGEMENT]
3.1
Loads are obtained in KVA only. However, wherever loads are obtained in KW, a power factor of 0.85
is considered to derive into equivalent KVA. [EJ]
3.2
Load factor for Continuous loads (C) is considered as 1 whereas for Intermittent (I) loads, it is
considered as 0.3. [EJ]
3.3
Rating of various Loads considered shall be verified after receipt of vendor inputs [U].
3.4
For Data Centre, ADCS, Siemens GTG and IPBX separate UPS shall be procured & sizing for the
same is out of scope of this calculation.
4.0
METHODOLOGY
4.1
Total loads are calculated in KVA from the design inputs.
4.2
25% design margin is considered in UPS sizing as per clause no 5E.8.2 of Volume 4 of 8, Section 5E.
4.3
Final UPS rating is arrived at 50 deg C.
4.4
Calculations have been done using following software:

Microsoft Excel - 2010 (MS-Office 2010, Windows XP Professional)

The selected UPS will be able to supply the required power for continuous operation of the connected
load.

CALCULATIONS
6.1
The calculation is as per attached Attachment I for UPS sizing.

RESULTS

The selected rating of UPS is 135 kVA (Output kVA) at 50deg.C design ambient.
