Dear Friend,

We're writing in support of our friend and colleague Richard Brodsky,

as he campaigns to become New York's next Attorney General. He is
known across New York for his extraordinary record as a reformer, a
legislator who stands up to powerful interests on behalf of regular
people, and a man of character and judgment. We want to emphasize
his achievements and his vision for our upstate, rural, and agricultural
communities.

First, his record. When we speak for the small, farming communities of
the state, Richard is there. He fights by our side on the things that
matter to rural New York including emergency aid to dairy farmers, fair
tax collection policies on Native American reservations, special tax
treatment for farmers, supporting the wine industry, and helping to
create rural electric entities to reduce our electric bills. He wrote the
bill (unfortunately vetoed) to create a War of 1812 celebration and has
worked successfully with sportsmen and hunting and fishing interests
across New York. He led successful investigations of political abuse of
the Olympic Regional Development Authority in North Country, and
investigated and stopped corruption in the Canal Corporation's
development of the Erie Canal in Western New York. Richard's record
stands out from all other candidates for Attorney General and has
earned him our recognition and support.

Second, his vision for rural and upstate communities. He understands

how important it is to support manufacturing and small business in our
upstate cities, towns and villages. Similarly, there is no one in the race
who better understands the economic hardships that our residents
face. He is pushing for constitutional reforms including an amendment
to ease the crushing burden that families feel from skyrocketing
property taxes. But in the end, it’s his character and temperament, his
willingness to be a partner with upstate communities that’s at the
heart of our support for him. He’s no newcomer to upstate. He's been
here before, often, and will continue to be with us as a friend and ally.

Let us conclude with a little known example of his commitment to our

communities. Several years ago, the tiny Town of Keene in Essex
County faced a real problem. It was running out of land for its
cemetery and the adjoining land was in the Forest Preserve. Keene
officials needed a champion, and they approached Richard, somewhat
warily. He listened, told them they needed an amendment to the State
Constitution, wrote it, navigated it through both Houses of the
Legislature, and then led the fight to have the amendment approved
by a statewide referendum. It didn’t look good; nobody downstate
seemed to care. Richard decided to fight for us. He asked Speaker
Silver to host Essex County officials at a press conference on the steps
of New York City Hall, rallied statewide environmental, and the
amendment squeaked by, with a lot of downstate support. Keene got
its cemetery, and the whole state learned that there are leaders
downstate who care about rural New York. It wasn't the biggest
accomplishment of Richard's career, but it surely tells us what we need
to know about his commitment to upstate.

There's a lot more to talk about, but for now we ask that you give him
serious consideration and support. He's going to win, and he's going to
win with support across the state. Feel free to contact us or Richard
directly at (914) 332-4940. Thanks.

Best Wishes,
