1 Rules
1. This is a 3-hour, 15-question contest. This test is
meant to be DIFFICULT, so do not be discouraged
or intimidated by the problems.
2. This contest (and therefore the submission period)
will end on 03:00 am EST, January 27th. Delays,
however, are very possible.
3. No aids other than rulers, protractors, compasses,
writing utensils, and paper are allowed.
4. All answers are INTEGERS between 000 and 999,
inclusive.
5. Include all necessary proceeding 0s. For example, if
an answer obtained is 65, please submit as 065, and
if an answer obtained is 9, please submit as 009.
6. A correct answer will give 1 point, while an incorrect
answer or a blank submission will give 0 points.
7. Submit all answers on the google doc, along with
your username. Please do not troll us; we dont like
trolls.
8. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns,
please PM joshualee2000, or just post in the forum.

1. Franklyn chooses a random positive divisor of 2016, and calls it x. Then, Franklyn
randomly chooses a positive divisor of x, and calls it y. The probability that y = 42 can

4ABC can be expressed as m/n, with m, n positive integers and gcd(m, n) = 1. Find m + n.
3. Consider 4ABC, where B is acute and greater than C. Let D be the intersection
of the internal angle bisector of A and segment BC. Suppose there exists E on ray AD
such that 4ABC is similar to 4CDE. If AB = 15 and BD = 10, then AE can be expressed
as m/n, where m and n are relatively prime positive integers. Find m + n.

tails with probability 1 2n+1

9. Let A and B be two points on a plane, with AB = 28. Denote 1 as the circle with
center A and radius 20, and denote 2 as the circle with center B and radius 32. Let the
intersections of 1 and 2 be X and Y . Let l be the line passing through X that is perpendicular to XY , and let C be the second intersection of 2 and l, and
let D be the second intersection of 1 and l. If [Y CD] can be expressed in the form m n, where n is not
divisible by the square of a prime, find m + n.

11. Ant world is a 40 by 40 grid of squares. An ant starts on A, the bottom left corner,
and wants to reach B, the upper right corner, by traveling along the edges of the squares
only up and right in the grid. One day, however, the 20 by 20 grid in the bottom right
corner of ant world is demolished. If n is the number of ways the ant can still travel
from A to B, find the remainder when n is divided by 1000.
12. There are 10 guests at a party: 5 pairs of identical twins. The 10 guests sit around
a circular table such that each pair of identical twins have at least 2 other people in between them. Assuming the identical twins in each pair are indistinguishable from each
other, and the table is fixed to the ground, what are the last 3 digits of the number of
ways the 10 guests can be seated?

not divisible by the square of any prime. Find m + n.
14. Wolfland is a five by five square grid habituated by five hungry wolves. Each wolf
must live on its own square in the grid. If any two wolves live a distance of less than
three away from each other, however, they will riot and eat each other. How many ways
can five squares be chosen on the grid for the wolves to peacefully live on? (Note: If we
define the square in row r and column c as (r, c), then the distance between (x1 , y1 ) and
(x2 , y2 ) is defined as |x1 x2 | + |y1 y2 |.)
