I. LEARNING COMPETENCY:
At the end of the lesson learners are expected to:
Investigate the relationship between the angle of release and the height and range of the
projectile
Code: S9FE-IVa-35
II. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Distinguish vertical and horizontal component of Projectile
2. Explain Projectile motion mathematically
3. Value significant application of Projectile motion
III. CONTENT AND MATERIALS
A. TOPIC: ACCELERATION
B. Materials:
Board marker, Eraser, Manila paper and pen
C. Science Concepts:
Formulas used in Projectile motion
Vertical Motion
Is force present? If
Yes, Gravitational force
present in what
pulls the object
Direction`
downward
Is the object
Yes. The object
accelerating? If yes,
accelerates downward at
how quickly and in what approximately
-9.8m/s2
direction
What equation can be
dy=y2- y1
used
vy=v*sin
Kinematic equation for
free falling objects
v2=v1y+gt
dy=(v1y+v2y/2)t
dy=v1yt+1/2gt2
v2y2= v1y2+2gdy

Horizontal Motion
No force acts on the
object horizontally
No. The objects
horizontal velocity is
constant
dx=x2-x1
vx=vcos
Equation for constant
Velocity
Vx=dx/t
v1x=vx

(Example) A ball is rolled off a cliff that is 50 meters high. If the balls initial velocity is
3m/s,
Determine the following
How long before it hits the ground;
how far from the base of the cliff will it hit the ground; and
Its velocity just before it hits the ground

B. Motivation:
Ask the student to go to their respective group and instruct every group to Draw
a ball rolled off from a cliff and let them indicate its path. Ask the student how they
describe path of the ball. Lead them to answer Curve or Projectile.
C. LESSON PROPER:
Concept introduction: Projectile motion is a form of motion in which an
object or particle (called a projectile) is thrown near the earth's surface, and it moves
along a curved path under the action of gravity only. The only force of significance that
acts on the object is gravity, which acts downward to cause a downward acceleration.
1. Pre-Activity
Give instruction
Give each group one marker and size manila paper
2. Activity proper:
The purpose of this activity is to measure the horizontal and vertical components
of projectile
Question: A ball is rolled off a cliff that is 90 meters high. If the balls initial velocity
is 6m/s,
Determine the following
How long before it hits the ground;
how far from the base of the cliff will it hit the ground; and
Its velocity just before it hits the ground
3. Analysis (Post-activity)
Give each group 3 minutes to present their output.
Instruct every student to observe the similarities and differences of each group.
D. Generalization:
After the presentation of each group,
The teacher will show the correct computation of the activity, check/compare if there
are misconceptions and reinforce information if it is not clear.
V. ASSESSMENT
Direction: Answer the question below.
A cannonball was fired at an angle of 30o from a cliff that is 50 meters high. If the balls
initial velocity is 3m/s, Determine the following
How long before it hits the ground;
how far from the base of the cliff will it hit the ground; and
Its velocity just before it hits the ground
