Key terms and Phrases

Media consumption: Media consumption or media diet is the sum of information


and entertainment media taken in by an individual or group. It includes activities
such as interacting with new media, reading books and magazines, watching
television and film, and listening to radio.
Audience behaviour: Is a process of dividing people into homogenous subgroups
based open denied criterion. The way the audience reacts.
Media ownership: Concentration of media ownership (also known
as media consolidation or media convergence) is a process whereby
progressively fewer individuals or organizations control increasing shares of the
mass media.
Technologies: the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes,
especially in industry.
Audiences: the assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a
play, film, concert, or meeting.
National: a national newspaper as opposed to a local one.
Local: relating to a particular region or part, or to each of any number of these.
National audience: an audience taken on a national scale, by country.
Local audience: an audience that is in your local area.
Institution: an established law or practice.
International: existing, occurring, or carried on between nations.
Global: relating to or encompassing the whole of something, or of a group of
things.
International institution: An international organization is an organization with
an international membership, scope, or presence.
Global institution: An international organization composed of most of the
countries of the world. It was founded in 1945 to promote peace, security and
economic development.
Hardware: the machines, wiring, and other physical components of a computer
or other electronic system.
Content: the things that are held or included in something
Convergence: the process or state of converging
Cross media convergence: cross-media convergence is the way that different
products are produced and distributed on different platforms.
Technological convergence: Technological convergence is the tendency that
as technology changes, different technological systems sometimes evolve
toward performing similar tasks

Synergy: the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances,


or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their
separate effects.
Proliferation: rapid increase in the number or amount of something.
Issues: an important topic or problem for debate or discussion
Libel: a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a
written defamation.
Conglomerate: a thing consisting of a number of different and distinct parts or
items that are grouped together.
Media co- operative: Media cooperatives are a form of cooperative that report on
news based on the geographic location of their membership, or the general interests
of the membership.

Revenue: income, especially when of an organization and of a substantial nature.
Horizontal integration: In business, horizontal integration is a strategy where a
company creates or acquires production units for outputs which are alike - either
complementary or competitive. One example would be when a company
acquires competitors in the same industry doing the same stage of production
for the creation of a monopoly.
Vertical integration: the combination in one firm of two or more stages of
production normally operated by separate firms.
Code of practice: A Code of Practice is a practical guide to achieve the standards
of health and safety required under the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act
and model WHS Regulations. Codes of Practice provide duty holders with
guidance on effective ways to manage work health and safety risks.
Fixed term contract: A fixed-term contract of employment is defined as
a contract of employment which: has a definite start and end date, or terminates
automatically when a particular task is completed, or terminates after a specific
event
Freelance: self-employed and hired to work for different companies on particular
assignments.
Fanzine: a magazine, usually produced by amateurs, for fans of a particular
performer, group, or form of entertainment.
Mainstream: the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people
and regarded as normal or conventional.
Niche: a shallow recess, especially one in a wall to display a statue or other
ornament.
Copyright: the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a
fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic,
or musical material.
