Identification

1.1

Traffic is not restored after a LTU 155 board replacement

If one of the affected LTU 155s is used as a replacement unit in a Network
Element with a different SW Baseline, the red LED on the replacement unit will
flash indicating wrong software. Consequently, the traffic will not be restored.

1.2

The LTU 155 Plug-In Unit can not be upgraded, and the error
message Program Failure is displayed
For most units, the behavior will first present itself when a future Software
Upgrade is performed.

1.3

The LTU 155 Plug-In Unit can not be downgraded, and the error
message Program Failure is displayed
Affected units with load module R3C04 cannot be downgraded to the TN2.3 or
earlier SW Baselines. In addition, affected units with load module R3B cannot
be downgraded to TN2.1.x or earlier versions.

Solution

2.1

Traffic is not restored after a LTU 155 board replacement

To remedy immediate effects of the behavior, the Network Elements involved
should be configured to set Plug-In Units In Service by selecting Accept
Failures option in Software Upgrade Preferences. Alternatively, the operator
can uncheck the option Version Control.
Long term, since it is not possible to modify the affected replacement unit in
the field another unit is required to restore the traffic. The affected unit should
be returned to the appropriate CDC for repair.

2.2

The LTU 155 Plug-In Unit can not be upgraded

To remedy immediate effects of the behavior, the Network Elements involved
should be configured to set Plug-In Units In Service regardless of the outcome
of any software upgrade. This is done by selecting Accept Failures option in
Software Upgrade Preferences.
When future upgrades are necessary to include new STM-1 features on the
affected units, a replacement unit is required.
