This file is used to help customers and Microsoft and/or Microsoft partner understand the scale and scope of
a SAM services engagement. The format is designed to be easy to understand and fill out, but may require
help from Microsoft SAM partners to ensure that all questions are answered properly and completely.
Usage
Cells with no color, or those with a light green background (used to deliniate different columns of data on
Part 2 - SOM Questions tab) are the only cells used for data entry. Cells highlighted in other colors (blue,
green or grey) are not available for data entry.
Worksheets are protected and only allow data entry in specified cells. Locked cells are not inteded to be
modified.
Note that the names of the Organizational Unit/ Division or Sub-unit entered into this table will be used in
the Tab for SOM Questions.
Example
Fill in the data requested for each of the cells highlighted in white. The image below shows a sample
organizational structure with some sample data filled in:
To use this tab, enter the first geographic location for the organization in the left hand column. Then, for
each of the organizational units at that geographic location, select the organizational unit from the drop
down list as shown below. Fill in the remaining columns of information for that organizational unit, then add
the next organizational unit at that location. When all organizational units have been entered for a
particular geographic location, go onto the next geographic location until all locations are entered.
The Organizational Unit column uses drop down selections that are defined by the business unit details
included on the "Organizational Information" tab. Select the organizational unit by selecting the drop down
button next to the cell as shown below (note, the options in the drop down are from the information
entered in the Organizational Information Tab):
The following provides an example of what this table should look like when completed:
"Part 2 - SOM Questions" Tab This tab collects information about the maturity of various SAM processes for the organization as well as for
each organizational unit. Every section has 1 question with 4 possible answers. For each column that has
a heading (company name or organizaitonal unit name), place an X in the one row that best represents the
answer to the question.
Note that the headings for this table come from the entries made in the organizational information tab.
