downloading,installing,andexploringadistributionlikeUbuntu,Mint,Fedoraorany
otherfullblownLinuxdistributioncanquicklyturnintoanightmareforprevious
Windows/Macuserswhentheytrytogetsomethingtoworkandstarttoseethe
commandlinementionedinseveralforumpostswhetheritsgoodorbadadvice,they
won'tbeabletotellthedifference!
Irecommendthefollowingtwowaystostart:
1. Installalinuxdistribution.Doesn'tmatterwhich,youhavetomakea
decisionlaterbasedonseveraldistributionexperiencesanyways.In
thiswayyouwillbecomemoreenlightenedonthechoices,thestrengthsand
weaknesses,packagemanagers,andwhatthismeansforyou.Buttomakethings
easierandlessconfusionchooseabasedistribution(Insteadofdistrobasedon
something)
2. Installadistributionwithoutadesktopenvironment(GNOME/KDE)
andwithoutXorg.ArchLinuxorDebianNetinstallw/Textbased
install(ArchLinuxisrecommendedbecauseofgreatdocumentationandwiki
oneveryapplicationconfigurationyouneed).Inthiswayyouwillbecomemore
familiarwiththecommandline,thestackofLinuxapplicationsandhowtheyadd
uptoawholepackagecomparabletoWindows.Fedoraisalsopossiblewitha
textinstall,andsoisDebian.
