Can you try to see if you can manually update virus definitions, list, and dictionary
entries ?
1. On the main administration page, click the LiveUpdate method for the
LiveUpdate object. The following screen appears.
2. Click "LiveUpdate Now" to update the latest virus definitions, list, and
dictionary entries.
The most common causes for list file or dictionary corruption is download to update
or from a system problem. To re-create lists and dictionaries, use the steps for the
operating system that applies to your computer.
WINDOWS NT/2000
2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories >
Administrative Tools > Services.
4. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows
Explorer.
5. In the left pane select Vendor. The default location for the folder is:
Note : If you have installed SWS to a different location, then browse to that
location and select the \SWS\vendor folder.
6. Select and delete the following fillies:
list_update
lists
lists_old
dictionaries
dictionaries_old
touch <filename>
To create new files for lists and dictionaries, open a command prompt and
type in the appropriate command and then press Enter:
echo # 2 0.0.0 Thu, 1 Jan 1970 04:00:00 -0400 (EST) > "C:\Program
Files\Symantec\SWS\Vendor\dictionaries"
echo # 2 0.0.0 Thu, 1 Jan 1970 04:00:00 -0400 (EST) > "C:\Program
Files\Symantec\SWS\Vendor\lists"
9. Open the SWS Administration screen and click System > Modify.
11. Click Initiate Download to start the download procedure. Make sure that you
check both the list version, as well as the dictionary version. While Lists can
be updated every night, they are often updated only once per week, so the list
should be no older than one to two weeks.
Eclipse/Solaris
Note : You must be logged in as Root or SU to perform these steps.
1. Stop the SWS process by typing the following command in the console and
then pressing Enter:
/etc/init.d/sws stop
2. Verify the SWS process is no longer running by typing the following command
in the console and then pressing Enter:
Note : If the Symantec Web Security process continues to run then type the
following command in the console and press Enter:
kill -9 <pid>
3. Navigate to the vendor directory where the lists and dictionaries are stored by
typing the following command in the console and then pressing Enter:
cd /opt/SWS/vendor
Note : To delete files type the command in the console and press Enter:
rm <filename>
Note : In newer builds (SWS 3.0.1.68 or newer) deleting the empty containers
is sufficient. In older builds of SWS delete the files by typing the following
command in the console an press Enter::
touch <filename>
6. Recreate the dictionaries file by typing in the command in the console and
pressing Enter:
echo "# 2 0.0.0 Thu, 1 Jan 1970 04:00:00 -0400 (EST)" >
dictionaries
8. Remove all cache##.gfh files by typing the following command in the console
and pressing Enter:
rm *.gfh -f
9. To restart SWS type the following command in the console and press Enter:
/etc/init.d/sws start
10. Wait a few minutes, and then open the SWS Administration screen.
11. In the Administrative Interface, click System, and then click Modify.
14. While Lists can be updated every night, they are often updated only once per
week, so the list should be no older than one to two weeks. Make sure that
you check both the list version, as well as the dictionary version.

Sir,
Please give the solution asap, because continuously we tried to update the SWS
through Live Update. But its not updating. Can we download the Virus Defenition
(xxxxxxxx-xxx-x86.exe) updation file from the Symantec Site and apply to this SWS
server?
