SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Doing a case study entails a lot of hard work and tons of effort from students

but the knowledge that you will gain from it is really beneficial. It would not only
give you an idea about the disease condition and its etiology, but more importantly,
it will help you realize the needed nursing interventions that you can utilize in
taking care of your patients. It will also make you realize to render much of care to
the patient who is in need.
COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a progressive disease
that makes it hard to breathe. "Progressive" means the disease gets worse over
time. COPD can cause coughing that produces large amounts of mucus (a slimy
substance), wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms.
Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD. Most people who have COPD
smoke or used to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritantssuch as air
pollution, chemical fumes, or dust also may contribute to COPD.
Illness is one crucial event in a persons life and it entails a lot of
complications that will be experienced by the persons body. Deterioration of some
body system and body parts will occur. As student nurses, we are to be aware of the
consequences it brings. COPD is a serious illness that may be a threat to life since it
affects airway and breathing, the top two priorities in health care. That is why
health care providers, like nurses, must be knowledgeable in what the disease
condition is all about. Thus, they will be rendering appropriate care for the patients
suffering from the illness. And most importantly is to give health teachings to
patients so they will able to restore their body to its optimum functioning and to
make them participate in the interventions to be given. They should also be
equipped with discipline so that they will eagerly follow the instructions that are
given to them regarding their disease condition in order to prevent situations that
will aggravate the condition.
The objectives of the group were all met after the completion of the study.
The group was able to gather pertinent data needed for the proper assessment of
the patient in his condition which provided adequate baseline data. The researchers
were also able to classify signs and symptoms supportive of the patients definitive
and probable diagnosis which enabled them to identify the care necessary. Through

research methods, the group was also able to identify the normal anatomy and
physiology of the respiratory system and its affectation in the disease process. Once
the normal has been established, the abnormal condition was traced as to the
factors,

This provided

knowledge of the cause of the disease and the preventive aspects to reduce its
occurrence. Thus, the group was able to distinguish nursing problems based on the
systematic assessment method, and construct Nursing Care Plans specific to the
patients identified actual and potential needs.
In terms of the overall results of the study, the group has decided to agree
with the diagnosis of the client. The manifestations expected from the medical
diagnosis are positively correlated with results of the physical assessment
conducted by the members. Also, the nursing diagnoses that were formulated were
not contradictory with the medical diagnosis.
As recommendation for future study, the group believes that when it comes
to dealing with the patients and in providing health teachings, nurses must master
the use of effective communication skills. Nurses must always bear in mind that an
ounce of prevention is better than cure and that the heart and soul of our profession
lies on the promotion of health which can be done through proper education of the
public. However, without effective communication skills by the nurse, health
education would be impossible. Thus, future studies must put emphasis on this
aspect of nursing care in order to have a successful study.
