Seventeen miles from the city of Galway, along Irelands

western coastline are the remains of what was once one
of Irelands greatest estates. Built in 1779, the Tyrone
House estate was 53,000 acres and burned in 1920 during
political unrest.
This pastel was created from a photo reference the artist
took inside the mansion looking out toward the fields. It
was an inspiring and hauntingly beautiful subject matter.

RELEASING HABITS OF SCARCITY

From our immersion in scarcity arise the habits of scarcity.
From the scarcity of time arises the habit of hurrying.
From the scarcity of money comes the habit of greed.
From the scarcity of attention comes the habit of showing
off.
From the scarcity of meaningful labor comes the habit of
laziness.
From the scarcity of unconditional acceptance comes the
habit of manipulation.
Is it any wonder that we are wreaking havoc on this
planet?

Millie's Musings

TRAVELERS CORNER

By Millie Crandall

February is not the cruelest

month of the year; that's
supposed to be April, according to the poem, The
Waste Land, by T. S. Elliot. Here in the northeast,
however, it may very well be the month that makes
me wonder why I did not pack up my beach-walking
clothes, flip-flops and towel and head for a warmer
clime in early October. But I also know the answer to
that: it's because it never seems to be necessary to
run for the south when the hillsides are painted in rich
reds and yellows exciting enough to take my breath
away. I love to walk in Otsiningo Park on a September
afternoon when the air smells of burning leaves
wafting across the river. I know it is time to plant my
purple and yellow crocuses, hyacinths and the tulips
that will follow them. How would I enjoy the spring and
summer to come if I did not freeze through winters
misery?

Spring will come again, always sooner than I think. It seems to

snowflakes from a late winter storm that melt away during the
afternoon, and then it is over.

SOUL JOURNEY
HEALING THE MIND:
How to Get In Line and In
One Accord With Your Mind
By Rev. Olivia Armstrong
The only natural emotion we have is love. Every other
emotion is learned. You learn emotions through your
experiences. My ex-husband drank and used to
physically beat me, so at one time when I smelled
alcohol on a mans breath an instant fear used to come
over me. You may have experienced fear of not having
enough food, money, or love, or fear that youre not
doing enough for your children. We must realize our
children are their own people. Theres a time to do and
a time to let go. Thats hard. Take a breath! Breathing
raises ones light vibration.
Dont let other people be the pilot of your plane. Your
mind is controlled by others when you let their opinions
be your reality. Dont let this happen. Dont let anything
outside of you have domain over your mind the way
you behave, feel, or express yourself. Remember that
most of us react to a stimulus instead of responding to
it. Break it down.
The key to healing the mind is forgiveness. Forgive
yourself and others. Another word for forgiveness is
Peace. I know if someone hit you with a bat, it would be
hard to have peace about that. But what is worse,
physical or emotional abuse? Wounds heal but
emotions sometimes never doit depends on you.
Peace of mind in adversity is a persons biggest
challenge. Remember, no one can do anything to you
emotionally unless you give them permission.
Regardless of what someone says or does to you, you
March 2016

choose to feel the way you feel. Remember, your

perception or thinking about something only affects you
if you give that situation power.
To start healing your mind, you must change your
attitude!
1) You can choose to have a positive attitude. You can
say, I might be PMSing, but Im not going to be a
grouch. And when other people vent about their own
problems, many times you just catch their negative
attitude. Having a positive attitude about things
changes your life. But wait, youre thinking, How can
I have a positive attitude toward someone who has a
negative attitude toward me? Well, are you going to
allow someone to bring your light down to their level,
or are you going to use your positive attitude to raise up
their light?
2) Patience is key to healing the mind. Some things just
take time to do right. Ive been on the spiritual path of
patience for eighteen years! I struggle through traffic
jams, long lines, and the toilet tissue rolling off the wall
and tearing short! Remember, as a man thinketh, so is
he. You must practice attitude-changing techniques.
They will give you peace.
3) By being a divine child and a divine light, you can
change peoples energy around you. Always send light
and love mentally. Have you heard the story of how
Jesus healed a woman mentally? She was so sick she
couldnt speak, but her soul went to His heart. That is
called mental telepathy. We all have the power to do it.
You do it all the time. You think the same thought as
another person, or wear the same clothes on the same
day. Scientifically, its been estimated we only use ten
percent of our brain. How much did Jesus use? He said
we could do what He did, and even greater works. Lets
look at that...He compared us to Himself.
Healing the mind is a conditioning and practicing of
ones thoughts. It is possible to live a happy, joyful and
abundant life full of peace and love. We are all
beautiful and divine expressions of light. Every moment
we are creating our world with the thoughts we think.
What we choose to think about, we attract into our
lives. Our thoughts affect us mentally and physically.
Studies have shown that people who practice positive
thinking have a strong immune system and live a longer
life.
As we begin to change our minds, we change our lives.
Peace.

FEATURED LIGHTHOUSE
PIGEON PONT LIGHTHOUSE
California
Pigeon Point Light Station or
Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a
lighthouse built in 1871 to guide
ships on the Pacific coast of
California. It is the tallest
lighthouse on the West Coast of
the United States.

NIGHTMARE
Brought to you by mega oil and gas corporations
Big oil and gas corporations have unleashed a multimillion dollar PR campaign to convince you that fracking
is a safe answer to the countrys energy needs. Nothing
could be further from the truth. Drillers see only dollar
signs, not the disasters fracking causes.
Fracking injects a mixture of water, toxic chemicals and
sand under high pressure up to two miles underground
into dense rock formations to crack the rock open and
release oil and natural gas. The fracking fluid that is
injected into the ground is full of poisonous chemicals
that have wide-ranging health and environmental
effects. Some of the fluid remains underground,
potentially seeping into groundwater and poisoning
drinking water. Once that happens, there is no way to
undo the destruction of our water supply. Do you ever
wonder about the increase in earthquakes?
A single fracking well can require more than a million
gallons of water, and local water supplies are being
threatened. Wastewater produced by fracking contains
high levels of radioactivity, and treatment plants are not
equipped to remove it. The drinking water of West
Virginia and western Pennsylvania has already been
threatened. The bottom line is that FRACKING CAN KILL
YOU. A closely guarded corporate secret is that the
chemicals used in fracking are hidden from public and
local officials. So far, 41 known chemicals with extreme
toxicity in fracking fluid have been identified that can
affect skin, eyes, sensory organs, respiratory and
gastrointestinal systems, the brain, nervous system and
immune system. We and our animals can get sick and
die.
The reason that these greedy corporate profiteers get
away with poisoning our air and water is because in
2005 Congress created the Halliburton Loophole which
exempted fracking from key federal water and air
protections following intensive lobbying from Cheney
and the energy industry.
When is mankind going to realize that money is not the
all-important power in this world? It doesnt help much
if were dead!

MICROBEADS BANNED!
In January Congress backed a bill banning the use of
microbeads in personal care products, and President
Obama signed it into law. These small plastic particles
have been a staple ingredient in everyday products like
body washes, facial scrubs and toothpastes. Theyre
too small to be filtered out by water treatment plants,
so they flow straight from our sinks to the ocean and
into the mouths and gills of sea creatures around the
world.
Companies will phase out the sale of products
containing microbeads over the next two years. A
sustainable ocean is a mission we can all get behind!

Wise Co. Emergency Food Supply Available

The cry of a newborn baby, 2015 years

or so ago, was lost in the music of angels
filling the sky. They were celebrating the
birth of Jesus, Immanuel. The first Christmas. The wise
men were impressed, the sheep herders were thrilled,
and for the next thirty-three years, He blessed those
who came near Him. Condemned to death as a heretic
by His own people, He suffered an excruciating death on
the cross, was buried, and on the third day roseproof
death had been defeated! The first Easter. These are the
two most celebrated days since that time.
The world couldnt shout His message down, they
couldnt stop it from spreading, they couldnt stomp it
out by killing His followers. But have they finally found a
way to water the message down, cover the meaning of
the celebrations with gifts, and parties centered on good
times and not the Good News? Do we as Christians
put too much emphasis on Santa Claus and the Easter
bunny, giving our children the impression these are a
better focus? We want our children to be like their
peers, we want to be like our peers, we want to fit in.
People have written books about returning from
Heaven, but do you see much written in the secular
world about the eternal Hell? That Satan is alive, well,
and working hard to persuade us his way is easier and
the more fun way to go, omitting the fire and brimstone
reward. Sometimes I feel like we are being lulled into a
coma of well-being, numbed like the insects that suck
our life blood.
I love Christmas, and Easter is a special day for us, but so
are all the days in-between. We are created in His image
to take care of this world, to be in it but not of it and yet
even in the churches, the true meaning of it all can be
smothered in the planning and prepping for the
holidays.

THE PERSISTENCE OF INDIAN CONTINUITY
In spite of the destruction of communities and the
conflicts among survivors, kinship and family relations
continued to provide many Indians with the secure base
that allowed them to develop strategies for dealing with
the European invasion.
These strategies took three directions: first, going
halfway, by adapting compromises with the outsiders;
second, going over, by taking on many of the outsiders
ways, while maintaining an essentially Indian soul; and
third, going against, by totally and sometimes violently,
rejecting the outsiders.
There are 17th century Indian biographies that provide in
detail early examples of each of these three paths.

THE SONG OF YOUR CHOICE

By Chris Marion
That was the assignment for the
final test in Group Voice, a vocal
course in the Music Dept. at whats
now SUNY-Orange.
I couldnt think of any song I liked or could or wanted
to perform, so I figured out the chords and combined
the jingles for Ballantine and Shaffer Beer, and did a
both rousing and heartfelt rendition with my studentsized guitar.

Mr. Curtis and the rest of the class sat there, stunned.
Uh, Chris, Im not quite sure what to make of what I just
heard. Apparently you misunderstood the assignment.
The song of your choice meant for you to choose from
the songs weve worked on, but I wasnt specific, and
thats what I get for not having been so.
I must admit Ive never heard those jingles together, and
CERTAINLY never the way you just performed them.
However, I have to commend you for your creativity and
your guts. I can hear that youre lessening your use of
tobacco, and thats laudable. You really have a BEAUTIFUL
baritone IF you stop completely. I further commend you
for playing that junky guitar in public without a shred of
embarrassment.
There is no embarrassment, Mr. Curtis. Its the only
guitar I own.
Point well taken, Chris. Thats why Im giving you a B+
rather than an F.
You didnt do what I wanted or expected. You did your
own thing, and I have to respect that. I also have to speak
to you after class.

DISH SOAP SOLUTIONS

Locate Leaks - Concerned that you might have a
puncture in your tire, kickball, or air mattress? Mix up
a simple solution of dish soap and water, and then
spray it over the area of concern. If there's a leak, the
spot will start to bubble up, alerting you to the
problem zone.
Soothing Solution - Fill a ziplock bag with dish soap to
create an effective and easy DIY ice pack. The soap
won't become solid but will instead form a cold gel
that can soothe whatever's ailing you.

My girlfriend at the time was also in the class, but was

ashamed, and we broke up shortly afterward. Mr. Curtis,
however, was somewhat encouraging. Chris, youre a
creative person. You dont belong in this school. You
belong in Berkeley, where they encourage people like you.
We nurture replacements for the various symphony
orchestras.
I dropped out for two years, but went back and earned my

after face-lift surgery.

HEMORRHOIDS: ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS

YOU WERE AFRAID TO ASK
Hemorrhoids may result from:
a fiber-depleted diet
straining to move stool
prolonged sitting on a toilet
pregnancy
aging (causes weakening of the support
structures, which facilitates prolapse)
chronic constipation or diarrhea
anal intercourse
According to a recent scientific review on the subject,
"hemorrhoids have plagued humankind since the dawn
of history." Unfortunately, hemorrhoid treatment has
not changed much since the days of Hippocrates
thousands of years ago. It has been estimated that 50%
of the population has hemorrhoids by the age of 50.
Hemorrhoids are very common among pregnant
women. The pressure of the fetus in the abdomen, as
well as hormonal changes, cause the hemorrhoidal
vessels to enlarge. These vessels are also placed under
severe pressure during childbirth. For most women,
however, hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy are a
temporary problem.

(Part 1)
For anyone suffering from anxiety, worry
or stress
Stay calm. There really is nothing worth
getting upset about. Fretting will not
recover a missing object. Panicking will
not save your life. Anger emanates from
stress. Without stress there is no anger.
Without stress there is no panic.

If you are
under 55,
you may
never have
seen these

Nothing material is permanent and thus objects are

not worth stressing about. Material objects and
comforts are nice, but they should not be anchors
keeping you attached to stress. Move on.
Friends are friends or they are not. A true friend will
never betray you and if a friend does betray you,
than he/she is simply not a friend. Always walk
away from betrayal and do not stress about it. True
and loyal friends are rare treasures and should be
treated as such. Loyalty returns loyalty. Compassion
returns compassion. Courage returns courage. If
others prove disloyal or they betray you, the
treasure is no longer a treasure, but merely a
bauble to be tossed aside. Never stress about
betrayal or loss. It is what it is. If youve been
betrayed once by someone, do not allow yourself to
be betrayed again by that same person.
Loneliness is an opportunity to discover yourself.
You cant find someone to love you if you dont love
yourself.

He went to His grave loving me.

By Maryalice C. Seager

He went to His grave loving me

He rose from the dead loving me
He went on to Heavens shore
Loving me forevermore
He went to His grave loving me.
A baby came down from above
Just to bring Gods wondrous love
To a lost and dying world
As He grew to be a man
He taught the people of Gods plan
To save them thru His living Word.
He was beaten, bruised and torn
Faced with laughter and scorn
All of this he suffered quietly.
Nothing they could say or do
Could make Him be untrue
He would go to the cross loving me.
The Father turned His face from Him
For He could not look on sin
Jesus died on that cross all alone
He bore my sin and shame
So I could call His name
And He could make me His own.

BOATS SAIL ON THE RIVERS

COURAGE OF DESTINY
By Rev. O. Armstrong

Have you heard; is this a new word?

Courage is so many things
However, its always the individualized
pain, fear, anger, hurt
Or is it a curse?
This is courage to the 13th degree
This is how our leaders were trying to
set you free.
Did they fail?
Dr. Martin Luther King went through hell
Malcolm Xhe stayed vexed
Mother Teresa stayed on her knees
Begging God please
Rosa Parks,
I know she cried in the dark
Their courage was of a destiny for the
world to shine
How can you conceive it; it will blow your
mind
The death threats; the bomb scares;
Burning down your house
And you thought it was only a mouse
April fools. Did they die and lose?
Lets step up to the plate
This courage is definitely a destiny of
fate
Can you do it?
Are you willing to try and die?

BE SPECIFIC

By Rev. Stanley L. Moody, Sr.

What is the thing you would have us do?
Where is the place you would have us go?
What is causing so very much rue?
What is the plant you would have us grow?
Perhaps to your plan we would all gladly hike
If you only would show to us what it looks like
If you only would have less hatred, less of lifes strife
More of Gods love, more of His life
More of His peace, more of His plan
More devotion to His Holy Man
Less human bitterness, less of mans cold
More harmony within the fold
A closer walk on the straight, narrow way
Less of Gods children wandering astray
Perhaps to your plan we would come with a shout
If you would only make plain to us what its all about!

Boats sail on the rivers

And ships sail on the seas
But clouds that sail across the sky
Are prettier far than these.
There are bridges on the rivers
As pretty as you please
But the bow that bridges heaven
And overtops the trees
And builds a road from earth to sky
Is prettier far than these.

POSTCARD FROM PRAGUE

By Katharyn Howd Machan

You walk the cobbles now,

every bend of these old streets
a new amazement, you say.
Twin spires, curved green roofs,
bricks so full of fairy tales
you have to speak them aloud.
The picture you have sent shows
seven clocks, hands and numbers
gilded in suns varied light dawn?
Or maybe sunset, you on your way
for beef in dill sauce, heavy beer,
and there by your feet one small
thin button, mottled purple like
the dress I wore when stories
called me to this city of time,
dreams of bloodsong, ghosts of glass,
my voice crying out surprise
in love, in bold dark hunger.
