SWBAT match different lines of the dialogue with the corresponding reported speech; SWBAT to use the rules of reported speech; Materials: textbook, Cd player, cassette, practice book Skills involved: listening, reading, writing, speaking Introduction: The teacher tells the students that they will learn about Reported speech with tense changes Activity 1: warm-up - whole class T writes mountaineer on the board. Ss find words which use the letters of this word. As they call out words, they write them on the board. Activity 2 : Speaking and listening whole class T asks children to look back at Lesson 1 and asks what they can remember about the story. T plays tape 26 again. Children listen.
Activity 3 : Reading - pair work
T reads the dialogue to the class and lets them read through it again silently. T asks them to match each line of the dialogue with the corresponding reported sentence. Activity 4: Speaking pair work Children follow the lines of the maze to discover what each climber is saying. T says a name and asks a child to read out the appropriate speech bubble. Then she asks another child to report it. Ss go through the whole exercise orally, paying particular attention to the changes of tenses. Then T lets the children repeat the exercise in pairs. Activity 5: Grammar card whole class T hands out the copies of the grammar file card and asks children to write the title: Reported speech. T asks children to copy the first speech bubble and the first reported sentence: It is cold . He said that it was cold. We can see the summit. He said they could see the summit.
