ASSESSMENT
Part 01
KEO Cost consultants, a UK Based cost consultancy firm established in the State of Qatar
is planning to conduct induction training to their employees. The main objective of this
training is to enhance communication & negotiation skills of middle and low level
employees of the company and also to train them to deal with various parties to the
construction contract in different stages of the project. KEO currently represent more than
34 clients within the State of Qatar and dealing with highly reputed multinational
companies in various stages of National level infrastructure development projects.
Assume you as the Commercial Manager of the company and you are appointed as the
resource person of the training by the CEO of KEO and asked to develop a comprehensive
training strategy on related areas also considering below criterias;
TASK
1) Recognize key stakeholders engage with infrastructure developments projects in the
State of Qatar in various stages in a project?
2) Identify key areas to be address in the training session by considering the
requirements of different categories of employees in the company and different
stages of infrastructure development projects in the State of Qatar?
3) Prepare a comprehensive Keynote to demonstrate an understanding of various
method & tools of professional communication with parties to the contract in
different phases of projects based on data collected in Task 01 and 02?
You must address Oral, Written, Listening skill and other important communication
methods
Part 02
The KEO, currently extend their highest contribution to the Doha City Metro project - Gold
Line, representing the Qatar Railway Development authority as the cost consultant of the
mega infrastructure development project.
Gulfs tar (WLL) is the main contractor of the project and 14 sub-contractors are
currently employed by the contractor and 01 nominated subcontractor by was employed by
the client, BICT Qatar to design and install Automated rail system concurrently with the
structural work of the metro line.
Recent dispute occurred reportedly between Gulfs tar and the BICT Qatar led to a
temporary disruption of the project until further notice.

The Notice of Disruption received from the contractor highlights the discrepancy of
contractual agreement and clauses made between the contractor and the client.
According to the Notice of Disruption the contractor claims major cause of disruption as
the integration of automated rail system with the underground structural work carryout by
the contractor. The project director of Gulfs tar (WLL) claims that, the installation of socalled advance automated rail system cause delays in structural works and impacts on
resource utilization as well as supply chain of the contractor significantly due to the
uncertainty of non-liable sub contractual works. Also the contractor claims monetary
compensations to recover damages caused due to resource idling and disruption caused to
the supply chain of materials for the period of 01/01/2016 to 01/02/2016.
Assume you as the chief consultant Quantity Surveyor of the project and you are
appointed as the negotiator by the Commercial Manager of KEO and asked to resolve
above controversy and resume the work immediately.
TASK
4) Analyze various strategies to solve disputes and apply a diplomatic strategy to
resolve the disagreement between the contractor and the clients subcontractor to
take the project back on as-planned schedule with least damage to the clients party?

Note: Students are advised to make clear assumptions as necessary and mention them
clearly within the report.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The assessment should be prepared in an Analytical Report format and the preparation of
the report requires the student to undertake a process of investigative nature and present in
a report of 3000 words (10% +/-). Autonomy of this process shall be reflected by the
structured use of referencing using Harvard Referencing.
