Instructions for Remote Voting

in the 2016 Global Presidential Primary of Democrats Abroad
Are you eligible to vote in the Global Presidential Primary?
To cast a ballot in the Global Presidential Primary, you must:
be a citizen of the United States of America;
reside permanently or temporarily outside the states and territories of the U.S.A.;
be a member of Democrats Abroad and subscribe to principles of the Democratic Party; and
have not voted (nor will vote) in any other 2016 presidential primary or caucus. (You may vote
in your home states primaries for candidates for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of
Representatives, and where permitted by your local election official, state and local elections
and ballot measures.)
If you are not yet a member of Democrats Abroad, you must join before completing your ballot.
You can join at http://www.DemocratsAbroad.org/join
If you are not sure whether you are a member, consult your local leader of Democrats Abroad or
try activating your online account at http://www.DemocratsAbroad.org/login If you are unable to
activate your account, please fill out the Join form on the website to ensure that you are a member.

Step 1: Print Your Ballot

To save paper and other costs, print only the first page of this file. You should not return these
instructions with your completed ballot.
Please print the ballot on a single page. The ballots contents will fit on a standard American-size
letter or A4 paper. Do not print a smaller image, because that will make your details too difficult to
read.
If you opted for an auto-filled ballot, please check all parts of the ballot. Be sure that all the
required information appears on your ballot. If there are errors, you may cross them out and write
the correct information nearby.
If you received a ballot on paper by mail, check the accompanying letter for your membership
number. You should copy that number to the appropriate part of your blank ballot.

Step 2: Fill Out Your Ballot

You must provide the following information in a legible manner:
Your full name
Your country of residence (usually the same as your membership country in DA)
Your date of birth (please use the American standard, MM/DD/YYYY)
Email (obligatory unless you do not have one at all; obligatory if you return your ballot by
email)
Telephone (obligatory unless you do not have one)
Physical address of your residence outside the United States
U.S. voting address (place of last residence; description allowed if postal address unknown)
If you know your Democrats Abroad membership number, please write it in the appropriate space.
Having this number will lighten the load of our vote-counters tremendously. You can find your
membership number by asking your local leader of Democrats Abroad, or logging into the
Democrats Abroad website at http://www.democratsabroad.org and visiting the Account Settings
page.
Finally, be sure to fill in the oval to the left of your preferred Presidential candidate!
The Global Presidential Primary does not allow secret ballots. (For more information on the
Democratic Party rules that require a signature and the tradition behind it, please see the short
article posted on our website.)

Step 3: Sign Your Ballot

The Declaration is required by the rules of the Democratic Party. By signing, you declare that you
will not vote in another Presidential primary or caucus and that you will not participate in any
other Presidential nominating process.
You are permitted, and in fact encouraged, to participate in non-Presidential primary elections in
your U.S. state of residence, such as primaries for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and
where permitted by your local election official, state and local elections and ballot measures.
You must sign and date the Declaration in order to complete your ballot, and you must do so by
March 8, 2016, the end of the Global Presidential Primary.

Step 4: Scan, Fax, or Mail Your Ballot

You can return your completed ballot one of three ways: by postal mail, by fax, or by an
attachment to an email message.
If you choose to return your completed ballot by postal mail, it is your responsibility to use
enough postage and follow whatever rules and practices required to ensure the safe delivery of a

legible ballot. Ballots received after March 13, 2016 will not be valid. All voters may send
completed ballots to:
International Chair, Democrats Abroad
Stettenerstr. 61
83209 Prien, Germany
If you live in a country with an organized committee of Democrats Abroad, you may be able to
mail your ballot to an address in your country. Please consult the list of countries below to see
whether there is a local address available to you.
If you choose to return your ballot by fax, use the telephone number below by 24:00 CET on
March 8, 2016. It is not necessary to use a cover page. As with all methods, it is your
responsibility to ensure successful delivery. The fax number is a United States telephone number:
+1-888-958-6739
If you choose to return your ballot by attaching a file to an email message, you must first create
an image file of your ballot. Please check the image before sending, particularly if you use the
camera on your phone to create the file. (Full-size scanners produce the best image files.)
Then you must compose an email message as follows:
To: PrimaryVoting@democratsabroad.org
Subject: Ballot delivery, [Your last name]
Message:
Full name: [Your full name as on your ballot]
Country: [Your country of residence]
Contact: [Your telephone number or full postal address]

Be sure to attach the image file of your ballot before sending the message! You will not receive an
error message or automatic response if you fail to include a legible image of your ballot.
If you choose to return your ballot by attaching a file to an email message, then you are
responsible for ensuring that
the file is in a commonly-used format: pdf, jpg, gif, tiff, or png;
the digital image is completely legible, including its size and resolution;
the email message with attachment is successfully delivered to the appropriate email address
by 24:00 CET on March 8, 2016; and
the file and email message are not corrupted and contain no viruses or other malicious code.
If there are problems with your email message or the attached file, Democrats Abroad does not
have any obligation to contact you and may simply treat the ballot as spoiled. While Democrats
Abroad will strive to answer reasonable inquiries, we cannot guarantee a timely response to
questions regarding the status of your ballot.

Additional Notes
After you submit a Remote Ballot, you may not vote in-person at a Voting Center or submit a
second Remote Ballot at a later date. You may only vote once in the Global Presidential Primary!
If you need help, your questions are welcome at PrimaryVoting@democratsabroad.org. Please
keep in mind that this email account is managed by volunteers.
