Meeting of the generations

Erlenbach am Main, Germany Secondary school
In this project, pupils from the Hermann-StaudingerGymnasium volunteer at 16 old peoples homes. They
play, talk, eat and promenade with seniors, collect their
life memories and also design recreation rooms for older
people.

The Maugherow Project

Maugherow, Ireland Primary school
This intergenerational arts initiative develops its participants creativity since 1998. Students of the St Patricks National School and older people work together
through the arts to explore and develop their creativity.
Guided by professional local artists they discover in
workshops once a week a variety of art forms (drawing, sculpture, painting, drama, creative writing, ce-

The Ensemble Demain association was created by
Carole Gadet and its patrons are Albert Jacquard and
Edgar Morin. The association aims to create and develop all kinds of intergenerational projects and offers
training and guidance for setting up intergenerational and intercultural projects. In partnership with the
French National Ministry of Education, the association
has created an innovative international pedagogical
programme that allows teachers to set up all kinds of
annual intergenerational projects, depending on their
school programmes.

MyStory creating an ICT-based

intergenerational learning environment
EuroEd School Romania Young people from all ages
The MyStory project aims to collect life stories from
seniors, older people, and thus valorise their life experience, their knowledge and make them understand
that they still represent an active part of the entire society. The project empowers seniors to network and
better relate to the present society by organizing ICT
training to help them develop basic computer and internet skills. Young people are trained to be story collectors and are engaged in processing the collected
materials and discussions.

Once on the site, street images can be overlaid onto

Google Maps Street View, and any content can be
grouped together into Collections and strung into Tours.
The Historypin app gives users different ways of exploring this content, using location-aware tools to become
immersed in the history that surrounds them, add content or browse collections all over the world from wherever they are.
Historypin local projects take participation directly
into neighbourhoods to broad, diverse audiences and
facilitate the creation of community collections through
outreach, support and lots of local partnerships. Fuelled
by the website and app, this is where we can deliver
a lot of the inter-generational and community aims of
Historypin.

Aragon, Spain Primary school
Since 1999, seniors in Aragon visit on a regular basis the
pupils of the local schools. They teach them personal
stories, traditions, local cooking, dances, street games
and how to make toys with recycled material.

Historypin
Children and young people from all ages
Historypin is a way for millions of people to come
together from across different generations, cultures and
places, around the history of their families and neighbourhoods, increasing contact and building stronger
communities.
Historypin.com is the main hub of the project and allows users to add their own photos and stories to Google
Maps. All content is geo-tagged, dated and captioned.

Bryn A nice place to be

Bryn, UK -Primary school
The Bryn Residents Action Group (BRAG) is an initiative that promotes intergenerational events, activities
and projects throughout the year. During the project
keep Bryn tidy old and young picked up litter to tidy
up the village. Regular school visits from the local historical society resulted in a school play about local heritage which was performed at the community centre.
Furthermore, the children collected wartime memories
from older people that will be digitised and archived for
the future.

Grandchildren of the Blitz

London, UK Primary school
This project offers a wide range of creative and intergenerational activities to explore the local history at
the times of the Blitz, the bombing of the London area.
Children interview seniors, who were children themselves during wartime, about their experiences and collect their stories. In creative workshops these stories are

used to write, together with experienced theatre makers,

a script. Voice, movement and improvisation exercises
give life to the stories and characters and are a preparation for an entire play.
