Dr. Zenida Cobian
Superintendent Of Schools
100 Iona Avenue
Penns Grove, New Jersey 08069
Greetings Dr. Cobian:
As you know, I am the Founder and Chairman of the National Awareness Alliance, a civil
rights organization that was established to fight racial discrimination and social injustice. I
was contacted by several parents in the community in regards to an incident that took
place a couple weeks ago, on and off the Penns Grove Middle School property. After
speaking with parents and giving careful forethought about the surrounding
circumstances and issues, I am inclined to interject my involvement.
Allegedly, a student, Josh Moore, threatened to shoot several students and referred to
African-American students as Niggers. First, let me say that I am deeply astounded by
such action of the student. Furthermore, I am also concerned about the safety of all staff
and students in the building. Moreover, I believed that Dr. Amberth, Principal of the
Middle School, did not provide adequate discipline towards the student, Josh Moore, for
his actions. It is to my understanding that Josh Moore communicated racial epithets to
several African-American students and threats of shooting, yet was only disciplined for
making the threat of (shooting) towards one student.
Giving the climate of school shootings across the country; hence Columbine High School
in Colorado, Virginia Tech University in Virginia, Sandy Hook Elementary School in
Connecticut and the most recent school shooting, February 29, 2016, at Madison Junior
High School in Butler County, Ohio, I find it reprehensible that Penns Grove Middle
School, District Office, and Board of Education leadership did not implement steps to
ensure safety of students and staff nor employ effective intervention to deter such
behavior from the student that now created a hostile educational and work environment.

With that being said, on behalf of the community of Penns Grove, parents of the students
who were victims of bias-intimidation, harassment, and terroristic threats, I demand for
you to remove the student out of the district into an institutional setting that can educate
and deal with emotional issues. In fact, if this demand does not happen, demonstrations,
legal remedies and publications in the media will ensue.
Should you need to contact me, I can be reached at the phone number listed above.
My hope is that you will intervene to find a way forward from this most unfortunate
circumstance.
Sincerely,

Walter Hudson
