1. The first step in digital storytelling is to determine what type of information is to be

shared.

Do you want to share or create a story? Do you want to share curricular information?
You can do both with this program.

2. Collect pictures that will enhance that information.

You can take your own digital photos or download images from the web. You can also
use clipart or your own drawings. Here are some free sites: (Many sites require images
to be credited.)

3. Open Photo Story 3.

Click on “Begin a new story,” then click “Next.”

4. Insert pictures into Photo Story 3.

Photos have to be downloaded from your computer. Simply click on the “Import
Pictures” box to access your images.

Once you access your photos, double-click on them to insert them into the program. You
can download them one at a time or all at once.

5. Arrange the pictures to correspond with the story information.

If you wish to change the order of your photos, you can achieve this by simply dragging
the images from one place to another or clicking on the arrow. To delete a picture, click
on the X.

6. Editing your images.

To remove the borders on your images, click on “Remove black borders.”

You can change the position of the rectangle by dragging it. Once you have the correct

To add effects, click on the “Add Effects” tab.

Choose the effect you want, and if you want that effect for all of your images, click the
box.

When your editing is complete, click on the “Save” button, then “Close.”

7. Adding a title.

Select the image on which you want your title to appear.

Type the title in the box. The title will also appear on the image. To change the font,
size, etc., click on font box.

Make changes, and click OK.

To move the title, click on one of the other boxes.

When finished with the title, click “Next.”

8. Create narration for your story.

You can figure out the narration and picture sequence beforehand by creating a
storyboard. This website has the template to get you started:

9. Add music and sound effects to your project.

Use music and sound effects to enhance your Photo Story. Included with the program are
musical properties that allow you to customize music for your project. You can also use
your own music, or you can find free music and sound files online. Here’s a couple to
get you started.

music. You can have one piece of music for the entire project, or each image can have its
own music.
