Canada is more than everyone think
When speaking about Canada, everyone has their own definition about Canada. Some
people think Canada is a country of red leaf, but some people think Canada is a peaceful country.
However, Shane Koyczan illustrates a new opinion, a new definition and reputation of Canada in
a poem We are more. Repetition and symbolism are used in this poem to raise attention of
reader in his new definition of Canada.
Koyczan used repetition of some pharse from beginning of the poem to the end of poem
for emphasize his ommon opinion and his definifition about Canada to reader. At the beginning
of the poem, a pharse you might is repeat against and against in the first stanza . For example,
you might list some statistics (Koyczan ,3) or you might list some statistics (Koyczan,4) .
Koyczan want to describe some common point of people in definition of Canada by listing some
opinions. After that, the authors used repletion the pharse of we are to show his own listing
definition about Canada. For instant, we are not just fishing stories (Koyczan ,28). Those phase
are also repeat against with metaphor literacy device to give the reader more information about
definition of Canada. The author does not create conflict between his view opinion and readers
opinion during comparision, but he supports and promotes readers opinion about Canada.

Another literacy deice used in this poem is symbolism. Symbolism creates rich images in
readers mind about a friendly Canada and a industrial Canada. Some friendly symbol of Canada
used are red leaf Canada, clean snow.For example, you might shake a tree in the fall and call a
red leaf Canada (Koyczan ,3). In this Quotation , read leaf is a symbol of Canada, and the
authors is creating a unity of Canada in readers mind with an imagery that this country is covered
by red leaf. Snow is also mention in this poem : because we are more than sticky maple syrup
and clean snow( Koyczan ,55).Snow is a symbol of coldness . it is a character of Canada
because Canada stays near North polar. By using some friendly symbol, the authors have drawn
a picture in readers mind with some characteristic of those symbol. In poem, the authors also
borrow some modern industrial symbol for describing a developed country with infinite
desire:.we are hammers and nails building bridges. Hammers and nails building bridge is a
symbol of an industrial country , not an agriculture country. Moreover, Nail building bridge is a
symbol of connection. It show to the reader that Canada is an country growing and developing
with neighbor country. By using symbolism in the poem, the authors impresses the readers in his
point of view about Canada.

To summarize, when talking about Canada , every one on this earth will have some
different definition about Canada. However, Koyezan have a full, real and current definition of
Canada. By using repetition and symbolism in the poem We are more, he successfully
transfers all his message to the reader, and he also share his hope a beautiful future of Canada.
