This is the 4th in a series of annual benchmarking surveys WERC conducts in conjunction with DC
Velocity magazine. The organizations ask WERC members and DC Velocity readers to complete a
survey regarding their performance of key metrics used in DCs. Benchmark data from 975 companies
was used to represent each companys performance for 2006.
These appendices include benchmark data for industry specific groups. In addition to industry data,
benchmarks can also be found based on company size (sales revenue), type of customer, and type of
operation just to name a few.

History of the Study


The previous studies helped the research team identify which measures appear to be the most widely
accepted and used. The first study examined 80 metrics and was narrowed to 55 in the second study. For
this years study, we have focused on 45 of the most important measures. Respondents were asked also
if they would provide data on the other metrics from last year if they had time. These optional metrics are
also included, but the sample sizes are somewhat smaller.

Karl B. Manrodt, PhD, Associate Professor, Georgia Southern University, is also the Co-Director of the
Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation. Recognized as a 2004 Rainmaker by DC
Velocity, his research has appeared in leading academic and practitioner journals. Dr. Manrodt is a
recognized speaker, and is one of the authors of Keeping Score: Measuring the Business Value of
Logistics in the Supply Chain.
Kate L. Vitasek, MBA, is the founder and Managing Partner of Supply Chain Visions, a small consulting
practice that specializes in supply chain strategy and education. Kate has been widely published. Kate
