IB CAS Proposal Form

Dear CAS Activity Supervisor,

Thank you for being willing to support our students in their CAS journey. The Creativity, Action, and
Service (CAS) requirement is a fundamental component of the IB Diploma programme and aims to
extend students personal growth, self-reflection, skills, talents, and social commitment through
challenging and relevant projects. The emphasis is on learning by doing with real tasks that have
real consequences and then reflecting on these experiences. Students participate over an eighteenmonth period to complete a minimum of 150 hours balanced among Creativity, Action, and Service.
An adult supervisor, or activity leader, is required for each activity a student undertakes. The role of
the supervisor is to offer guidance before and during the activity, to monitor the students
performance and attendance (candidly verifying the number of hours of participation), and to
eventually evaluate the students success in meeting his/her goals.

As a CAS supervisor we hope

that you will:

support the spirit and integrity of the CAS programme through your work with students
recognize and promote opportunities for students to be successful in meeting their
proposed goals and learning outcomes
maintain and report accurate and up-to-date attendance records
complete an evaluation of the students performance once the activity is completed
You will be asked to sign the students Proposal Form before s/he begins the activity, confirming
your role as supervisor. You may wish to talk with the student about their goals if you think they can
be improved in some way. When the activity is completed, within two weeks the student must write
a comprehensive final reflection and request a supervisor review; this will be electronic if you have an
email account or by paper if you dont.

Please ensure that the student completes his or her

responsibilities before sharing and allows you adequate time to complete the evaluation thoughtfully.
We appreciate and thank you for supporting the students; your understanding and guidance are
important for their overall success. If you have questions or concerns, now or at any time during the
activity, please do contact us.
