POSITION OVERVIEW
SENIOR MANAGER - THRIVE AND LEAD
The Senior Manager, Settle, is a new role (aligned with NYCHs key outcome areas of settle, thrive and lead), that
directly supervises a team of program managers, and co-leads the larger program management team. This position
is a member of the senior management team that establishes strategic priorities and targets, develops responses
to emerging trends and issues in the community, and provides leadership to the organization. The ideal candidate
will bring a breadth of experience in leading management teams to develop and implement effective and innovative
community initiatives. They will have the skills to develop budgets and secure program funding through the
development of grants and funding proposals. They will bring a strong background in working with diverse
populations, ideally in the settlement and community services arenas, and a solid understanding of issues facing
newcomers to Canada. This role would be an ideal setting for someone with a strong desire to use evidence and
best practices to develop strong service models, and a commitment to using their expertise alongside a creative
and vibrant team of like-minded professionals.
POSITION PROFILE
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight of all programs under Settle (language learning, digital stories, community and school settlement programs), including program planning and implementation, evaluation, reporting, budgeting, etc.
Develop and clarify vision for community settlement, and an integrated plan for growth align with
NYCHs strategic goals and outcomes.
Lead the development and implementation of NYCHs response to the Syrian (and other) refugees.
Seek and secure funding for programming (including grant writing and development of funding
proposals).
Budget development and management (with Director of Finance), work with team to monitor budgets.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders; ensure timely and accurate reporting, responses
to requests, preparation for audits, etc.
Develop relevant program policies, procedures and processes; oversee policy implementation.
As member of senior management team, work to achieve strategic targets and goals.

encouragement, and toward personal and systemic growth.
Ability to lead a through, critical, agile, responsive program planning and implementation process that
translates needs into most appropriate and effective programs/activities.
Strong communication skills; able to communicate clearly and appropriately with different stakeholder
groups, convey ideas to team and colleagues, constructively deliver and receive critical feedback.
Able to ensure that targets are established and met, evaluation plan is developed and implemented, data
is analyzed and used to improve programs, meet outcomes.
The skills to contribute to HR planning, recruitment and selection, effective orientation and training of
new staff, regular supervision and performance management; plan and problem solve with HR; ensure
team implements HR policies.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The minimum level of education is a bachelors degree in social work, social sciences or related field.
Education or training in nonprofit administration is an asset.
Demonstrated experience in leading management-level teams using an approach that fosters individual
and team strengths and development.
Experience in the settlement sector and a strong understanding of current issues and trends.
Experience developing and monitoring program budgets, identifying funding needs, submit
reports/expenses, working with team to manage budgets.
Proven skills in writing and developing successful funding proposals, and writing clear, concise and
accurate reports and plans.
Development of strategic and effective partnerships, taking leadership roles in coalitions, building and
maintaining positive relationships with funders.
Experience working as a member of management and senior management teams, who acts as a support
and resource for peers, and works in a collaborative, respectful and inclusive manner.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Proof of a valid police reference check is required for employment at NYCH, as well as an annual declaration
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical working hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with somewhat regular requirement to work
additional hours.
Required to travel within the GTA to other NYCH and community sites, network/coalition meetings, conferences,
etc. as required.
