UNB V-REDS CHALLENGE CUP
2010 Tournament Rules and Information

1. Body checking will only be permitted in the Pee-Wee Minor (1999) and Pee-Wee Major (1998) Divisions.

2. For all Divisions, round-robin games will consist of three 12 minute stop time periods, and final/championship games
will consist of three 15 minute stop time periods. A five goal or more differential at any point during a round-robin game
will result in the remainder of that game being played straight time, unless the goal differential is reduced to four or less.

3. Teams will be ready to go on the ice 15 minutes before the scheduled game times. Prior to the start of games, there will be a
three (3) minute warm-up period, which will begin as soon as the ice is available.

4. The ice will be flooded after the second period of each game.

5. The “no red line” and “no touch icing” rules will be applied and teams will change ends after each period (1 minute break
between periods).

6. If a team chooses to dress only one goaltender and he/she is injured, the game will continue and no time will be allowed to
dress a second goaltender. Only two (2) minutes will be allowed for the goaltender to recover from an injury. After this time,
he/she will be replaced.

7. All players must be able to provide proof of age if contested (e.g., Birth Certificate). Any teams using ineligible players will
be removed from the tournament with the loss of the entry fee.

8. Full face masks and neck guards are mandatory for all players.

9. Any injured player who remains on the ice until a trainer comes onto the ice to help him/her must subsequently sit-out the next
5 minutes of the game, except if there was a penalty call on the play to the opposing team.
10. Each team will be responsible to choose a “player of the game” from the opposing team, which must be communicated to the
timekeeper at the end of the game. Coaches from both teams may consult with each other. Teams will quickly shake hands
and line up at their respective blue lines after games for “player of the game” awards.

11. There will be no overtime in round-robin games and points will be awarded on a 2-1-0 basis for a win, tie or loss,
respectively.

12. No time-outs will be permitted during round robin games. For championship and consolation games, one 30-second time-out
per team will be permitted.

13. All players must play in at least 2 games during the round robin to qualify to play in any championship or consolation games.
Exceptions may be permitted at the discretion of the Tournament Organizers for special situations (e.g., injured players, travel
complications, etc.).

14. Championship and Consolation Games:

 The top two teams (1st and 2nd place) with the most points from each division will play a final Championship
(Gold/Silver Medal) game after the round robin. Likewise, the 3rd and 4th place teams from each division will play a
Bronze Medal game.

 Teams which finished highest in the round-robin will be the home teams.

 Games will consist of three 15-minute stop-time periods.

 One 30-second time-out per team will be permitted.

 If teams are tied for points after the round-robin games, the following tie-breaker rules shall be applied (in order of
priority) to determine the final round-robin standings:
i. Winner of “Head-to-Head” game.
ii. Best +/- (Goals For minus Goals Against) - max. of +5 per game.
iii. Most Wins.
iv. Fewest Goals Against.
v. Most Goals For.
vi. Coin Toss by Tournament Organizers.

 If required, there will be one five (5) minute straight time 3 on 3 overtime period.

 If neither team scores during overtime, the winner will be determined by a shootout (3 shooters). If still tied, the
shootout will be sudden death and repeated (one shooter per team at a time) until a winner is determined. The home
team will have the choice of shooting lst or 2nd and no player may take a second shot until all players have had one shot.

15. The Tournament Organizers will have the final say regarding any interpretation of the rules and regulations and no protests
will be accepted, except to verify the eligibility of a player.

16. Tournament results/standings will be updated and posted on-line and will be accessible from a link on the V-Red Prospects
Program Website: www.unbprospects.ca
