The Smart Water project worked with
water experts and artists and developed
innovative and smart ways to raise awareness
of water consumption in Ulaanbaatar,
how we can save our water resources, and
protect our environment. To achieve this
goal, the project involved a cross-section
partnership that consisted of a series of
talks on simple everyday environmental
protection and smart water consumption.
A public screening of US and Mongolian
feature and documentary films was screened
at cinemas and a public ice art sculpture was
installed on world Water Day on March 22
at Chinggis Square.
The project continues to visit schools
on April 8, with the screening of A Thirsty
World documentary film by Thierry
Piantanida and Baptiste Rouget-Luchaire
at Orchlon High School. The program
continues with the screening of Chasing
Ice, a documentary by Jeff Orlowski on
April 11-15 at the American School. All film
screenings will be preceded by a discussion
between a water expert and a public figure.
The Smart Water Project invites everyone
to engage in the issue of water consumption
and the protection of Mongolias water
resources this April.

On world Water Day, an ice art sculpture was displayed for the public on Chinggis Square

water only accounts for 2.5 percent of the
total water that exists on the earth. Some

68.1 percent of this water is in the form of

ice, 30.1 percent is in ground water and 1.2
percent is surface water, including rivers
and lakes. Humans are not the only ones
that need water all living creatures and
agriculture rely on water to survive. Water
scarcity and poor water quality negatively
impact our health and the environment.
