1. (a) State and explain Kirchoff’s Laws

1. A Wheatstone Bridge consists of AB=4 ohms, BC=3 ohms, CD= 6 ohms and
DA= 5 ohms. A 2v cell is connected between A and C. Find the current through
galvanometer connected between B and D. as shown in figure 1 [16]

1. (a) What is meant by EMF of a source?


(b) Distinguish between ideal and practical voltage source? Give examples?
(c) Distinguish between ideal and practical current sources? Give example?
(d) The internal resistance of a 12v − battery is a0.9 ohms. What will be its ter-
minal voltage when the current drawn from the battery is 2 Amps.[4+4+4+4]

2. (a) State and explain superposition theorem.


(b) calculate the current through 2 ohm resistor using superposition theorem (All

3. (a) Derive an expression for the energy stored in a magnetic field
(b) Two coils with self inductance L1 and L2 Henrys are connected in series aiding,
and the net inductance is found to be 6 henrys and in series opposition (differ-
ential) the net inductance is found to be 2 henrys. If the coefficient of coupling
between the two coils is 0.5, Calculate the self and mutual inductances. [8+8]

4. A coil A having a resistance of 10 ohms and inductance of 0.2 Henry is connected


in series with another coil B having a resistance of 30 ohms and inductance 0.1H.
The two coils in series are fed form 200 V, 50 H Z supply. Determine the voltage
across each coil, power dissipated in each coil, and the power factor of the combined
series circuit: Draw the phasor (vector) diagram. [16]

5. (a) Define voltage regulation of a transformer. Deduce the expression for the
voltage regulation.
(b) The number of turns on the primary and secondary windings of a single phase
transformer are 350 and 35 respectively. If the primary is connected to a 2.2
KV 50 HZ supply determine the secondary voltage. [8+8]
