Enfocus Switch workflows

Enfocus Switch is an automation solution for Macintosh and Windows. It integrates with third party
applications such as HP SmartStream Designer. Enfocus Switch uses Configurators and Flows to automate
manual and repetitive tasks. For more information about Configurators and Flows, see the Enfocus Switch
user guide.
Enfocus Switch version 11 and above support:

VDP Configurator Enables the automatic creation of variable data printing (VDP) output files from
Designer template files. (Designer Template files are HPD files, ZIP files, or Packed Folders that were
created from HP SmartStream Designer by selecting SmartStream Designer Tools > Pack Job.)

Imposition Configurator Enables the automatic imposition of non-imposed PDF files, using HP
SmartStream Designer imposition (IMPP) template files.

VDP Configurator
VDP Configurator enables the automatic creation of VDP output files from HP SmartStream Designer. In the
following example, one database file is used to create a PDF output file for proofing, and a JLYT output file
for production.

To do this, the workflow uses two instances of VDP Configurator. Each instance has different parameters.
The database files are directed to two folders, which generate output files based on the Designer template
files. The output files are then directed to other folders, based on their definitions.
To set the VDP Configurator parameters:

1.

Select Flow Elements > Configurators > Variable Data.

2.

Select the VDP Configurator icon in the Flow chart.

3.

From the Properties pane at the bottom of the screen, look at the parameters.

4.

You can set the following parameters:

Name Enter a name that describes the VDP settings, or leave the default as is.

Output Format Select JLYT, PDF, or PPML. Select Default to keep the original format of the
original job.

Type If you select JLYT, then also set the Type parameter. Select Fast, Rich, or
Optimized.

Impose If you select PDF or PPML, then also set the Impose parameter, which determines
whether or not to impose.

Skip Rows Enter the number of header rows to be skipped.

Split Output determine whether to produce a single output file or multiple output files. Output
files can be split according to:

A specific number of database records

A specific number of imposed sheets

Template Folder Select the folder in which the Designer templates are located.
NOTE: To create a Designer template, select SmartStream Designer Tools > Pack Job > Pack to
folder.
If a template was created as an HPD or ZIP file, unzip it, and put it in the Template folder.
Use a naming convention. For example:

The packed folder is named Job1

The corresponding database file is named Job1.abc.csv or Job1.abc.txt

The .indd file (which is inside the packed folder) is named <Template folder>/Job1/Job1.indd

Imposition Configurator
Imposition Configurator enables the automatic imposition of non-imposed PDF files. In the following
example, multiple PDF files are sorted according to their sizes. The sorted PDF files then undergo different
impositions.

To do this, the workflow uses four instances of Imposition Configurator. Each instance has a different
imposition instruction:

A5 PDF files use 4_up imposition.

80 x 50 mm PDF files use 6 x 5 step and repeat imposition.

A4 PDF files use 2_up saddle stitch imposition.

A4 PDF files also use a large substrate size (B2) 2_up saddle stitch imposition, which is repeated 2 x 2
times on the sheet.

To set the Imposition Configurator parameters:

1.

Select Flow Elements > Configurators > Impositioning.

2.

Select the Imposition Configurator icon in the Flow chart.

3.

From the Properties pane at the bottom of the screen, look at the parameters.

4.

You can set the following parameters:

Name Enter a name that describes the imposition settings, or leave the default as is.

Paper Size Select the paper on which the job will be imposed. Select one of the predefined
sizes, or select Custom and then define the Units, Width, and Size.

Imposition Template Select an imposition template. Select one of the predefined IMPP
template files, or browse to select an IMPP file from another location.

Crop To Select the PDF page size. Select Crop box, Media box, Trim box, or Art box.
