The toddlers will (1) listen as I read the book The Wheels on the Bus by Paul O.
Zelinski helping to move the tabs as we read (2) they will sing along to the song
and learn the motions using a YouTube video and (3) they will help to create their
own wheels on the bus video using an iPad that (4) they will be able to watch as
they are interested.
The lesson will be repeated daily over the week as repetition is important for
young toddlers. We will read the book as long and as often as the children are
interested and same for the video. I anticipate the reading to last approximately 10
minutes per day (50 minutes total for the week), the YouTube video about 10
minutes per day(50 minutes total for the week), and the making of the video to
occur during them learning and mimicking the motions so approximately the 50
minutes as well.
What preparation is needed? Obtain the book from the library, have the YouTube video
ready on the Amazon Firestick YouTube, set the iPad to airplane mode and on the video
setting.
What materials will be used? The library book The Wheels on the Bus by Paul O. Zelinski
A TV with Amazon Firestick set to YouYube to access the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9XZX3m06cE
An iPad for the children to record themselves and the others as they learn the song and do
the motions.
How will the learning environment be set up?

Carpet Area in the Living Room out of traffic

Instructional Procedures:
Day 1:
Introduction (5 minutes): Sit down on the carpet next to the non-mobile infant and with the book
on my lap. I have a book. Who would like to read it with us? Ask the children what they see on
the front cover. You see a bus? Me too! Lets see what is inside.
5-10 minutes: I will open the book and ask them what they see and encourage them to actively
participate in the reading of the book by pointing to what they see on each page (Examples: the
bus, the wheels, the door, etc) and encourage them all to help pull the tabs in the book on
each page. I will continue to read the book as they continue to show an interest.
5-10 minutes: Now that we have read the book, who would like to stand up and sing the song?
I will turn on the Tv that is already set to the YouTube video and begin to play it. I will sing along
with the video and encourage the children to do so as well. I will model the motions that go along
with the song and encourage them to do so as well. After the first go of the video, begin with the
next step.
5-10 minutes: Now that we have all learned the motions, lets record us as we sing along.
Begin on day 1 with the oldest child (2 years) and model how to use the iPad to video us as we
sing along to the video and do the motions. We will continue as long as they show an interest.
Day 2: Repeat Day 1 procedures but allow the next child to do the recordings
Day 3: Repeat Days 1-2 but allow the next child to do the recordings
Day 4: Repeat previous days procedures but allow the next child to record
Day 5: Repeat the previous days procedures but hold and allow the non-mobile infant to help
with the recordings. When finished, say You all sure had some good motions and singing, who
wants to watch the video that we made? Play the video the children made on the iPad. The
video will be about 50 minutes long. Take note of their reactions.
Extension
http://www.storylineonline.net/
Storyline Online is a free online site that provides books that are read-aloud by celebrities. The
site also offers a link to other activities for each story to supplement the childs reading skills so
that they can become active participants in book reading, story-telling, and singing .
Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated
(changed or altered) to meet the needs of gifted or accelerated students: Additional books and
sing along songs can be provided. The child that is gifted or accelerated could lead the lesson
with support provided once they seem to have mastered the lesson.
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling
with the material:

I would allow the children to handle and explore the book on their own as desired and I would
also model proper book handling and computer etiquette. One on one instruction during a later
time can and should be offered as well.
