Jram: settings and strategy for 5 min scalper trading...

This will be in two parts...
The first how I setup my charts and the studies (signals) I use and how to set them up.
Later in the week I'll upload my basic strategy.
DISCLAIMER: This is how I trade. It has taken a LONGGGG time to get it right and the
only way to learn it is like any other strategy, you have to watch, study, take good notes
and paper trade. Trade it for 3 months demo before going live. This is not an automatic
miracle method (if you have one let me know . It is a good system and my winning
percentage is very profitable.
Jram trading method:
This a "scalper" method.

Charts:
I use ThinkOrSwim. This is the chart service provided by TD Ameritrade if you have an
account with them. It's a $50 minimum to open an account which gives you access to
the ThinkOrSwim charts (sometimes called "tos). It is robust and comes pre-loaded with
tons of tools pre-programmed for you. You pick which ones you like, you can edit them

tons of tools pre-programmed for you. You pick which ones you like, you can edit them
or you can program your own.
My Chart setup:
The quotes show what the TOS language is so you can be sure to have it right.
Simple Moving Average (SMA) 8 day
"SimpleMovingAvg (CLOSE,8,0)"
Simple Moving Average (SMA) 20 day
"SimpleMovingAvg (CLOSE,20,0)"
Simple Moving Average (SMA) 30 day
"SimpleMovingAvg (CLOSE,30,0)"
BollingerBands
"BollingerBandsSMA (CLOSE,0,20,-2.0,2.0)"

Next I use two simple studies and have them setup to that they provide up and down
arrows as signals. Once you have added on the study you must edit it so the values are
correct >>
The first is:
"BollingerBandsCrossover(20,2.2, lower, above)"
Double click the study and a settings box will appear.
Input these values:
length: 20
std deviation: 2.2
band: lower
crossing type: above
You can then choose a color of the signal (arrow), for this signal I use white.
This sets up the signal for one direction.
The next is:
"BollingerBandsCrossover(20,2.2, upper, below)"
Double click the study and a settings box will appear.
Input these values:

length: 20
std deviation: 2.2
band: upper
crossing type: below
You can then choose a color of the signal (arrow), for this signal I use white.

Next I use a Stochastic study:

"StochasticCrossover (8, StochasticSlow, Overbought)"
Double click the study and a settings box will appear.
Input these values:
k period: 8
stochastic mode: StochasticSlow
crossing type: Overbought
Next, choose a color, I use yellow.
This sets up the signal for one direction.
The next is:
"StochasticCrossover (8, StochasticSlow, Oversold)"
Double click the study and a settings box will appear.
Input these values:
k period: 8
stochastic mode: StochasticSlow
crossing type: Oversold
Next, choose a color, I use yellow.

OK, that is all there is to it. This produces white and yellow indicator arrows on a
candlestick chart. You can use it on any candlestick chart. Being a scalper who does lots
of 5 min trades my setup is on 1 min charts.
I trade the yens, eur/usd, gbp/usd, eur/gbp, usd/chf, aud/usd, gold, oil and sometimes
others.

Before I go into the actual strategy (which will take some time to get typed up and
explained correctly and hopefully with clarity) use the setup and watch the signals. You
need to watch them live as they sometimes appear and dissappear so you need to get
an idea of how you can use them to find entry points.
The yellow arrows are very good for reversal trades of 5 min. BUT, DO NOT TRADE
them until I get my strategy uploaded. Please, I don't want anyone losing anything. YOU
have been WARNED.
I only trade this strategy at certain times of the day (low volume times) and only when
the major currencies are flat (dollar and the yen). It's very low stress.
I will try to get my strategy down and uploaded soon.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Would love to hear from
anyone who trades with a similar setup to exchange ideas and observations.

I would like to try your strategy out but since you use ThinkorSwim(TOS) which is ran by
Ameritrade which requires your social, tax id, and employers name/address just to sign
up I doubt I will ever get the chance to. Do you know if Simple studies can be added
through Metatrader4(MT4)? If so I will be able to at least set it up until you finish writing
your strategy for scalping

Hi Jram
Sounds interesting !
Hi Beset
Since you seemed to have already set up those indicators on your mt4 (which I am also
using)
would you be able to assist me to set up this system correctly as I am having some
problems

Let me correct about TOS, You don't need to pay $50 to get their platform. You can
have demo account with 10,000 $ playmoney account. I've been using TOS also for
quite sometime. FYI

https://www.thinkorswim.com/tos/disp...age=paperMoney sign up here if you want

paper money (aka demo)

Sure! What problems are you having?? Goto Site Jram linked
(http://www.bestfxtradingsystems.com/...mt4-indicator/) and scroll down under
details to click on Stochastic Cross Alert MT4 Indicator

If you have Windows OS and MetaTrader 4 Downloaded this is what you do. (Hope it
makes sense)
1.It comes as a zip file so you have to extract it to a folder. (usually right click gives you
option)
2.Once extracted open folder and you should see two files. (ex4 and MQL4)
3.Highlight and Right click to copy both Stochastic Cross Alert files
4.GOTO Computer, C: Drive, Program Files (x86), MetaTrader4 Folder, experts,
indicators- now right click anywhere in this folder and click paste. (Click continue if
you're administrator)
5.X out of MetaTrader and reload it.
6.Once in MetaTrader 4 again. Click Insert at top, indicators, custom, Stochastic Cross
Alert. Viola, should be installed correctly.

yeah, TOS is cool, it is the next generation of the platform I use in a way....I got started
through a seminar called Investools 5 step method for trading blah blah blah and they
got me using OptionsXpress for charts and trading. The business that gave the seminar
eventually became/mergeed with TOS. I use those charts (optionsxpress) everyday and
use their demo account for trading sometimes... and my equity positions are there of
course.

totally agree SenseiMichael, TOS are quite impressive, already preloaded valuable
indi's, compare to MT4 with just basic indicators. But still love mt4 because of simplicity
:-)
