BARNEGAT A prison escapee remained on the

lam Wednesday night, despite efforts by hundreds of
officers who swarmed the township all day in search of
the convicted killer last seen in the morning at a West
Bay Avenue pharmacy.
Barnegat police said they will not give up searching
for Arthur Buckel until they catch him or have confirmation that he is no longer in the area.
School officials and police decided Wednesday
night that schools would be open today. If the fugitive
has not been caught, they said, officers would be stationed at each school all day.
At an 8 p.m. news conference, Mayor John Novak
appealed to Buckel to surrender.
My suggestion to you is to surrender to law enforcement, Novak said, addressing the 38-year-old
prisoner who escaped Tuesday from the Bayside State
Prison unit at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Winslow.
Make it easy for everybody, including yourself,
Novak continued. You will be apprehended either
way.

While university officials did not disclose details of

the investigation, the student who filed the federal
complaint told the Asbury Park Press she believes the
university mishandled her sexual assault case after
she told campus officials she was raped in 2014 by a
male student she was in an on-and-off relationship
with.
The Press does not identify women who allege a sexual assault.
