Students will need a regular poster board, nothing fancy, $1.00 at the Dollar Tree.
o They will need to model and display multiplication and division strategies using the
following strategies: They can use whatever integers (whole numbers) they choose
in their equations.
o Demonstrate models for each: Arrays; Repeated Addition; Repeated Subtraction;
Equal-Sized Groups; Equal Moves (hops) on a Number Line.
o Choose at least 3 different Properties of Multiplication and express those with
equations correctly. (Commutative, Distributive, Identity, Zero, Associative)
o Student will also need to create a function table with a RULE that they have made
up.
o After they have developed a function table with their rule and solved for each row in
their table; they must separately show 2 examples of how another term would be
solved using that same rule. (For example: if the rule is x 4 1 the student
should be able to apply for the 9th term as 9 x 4 = 36 1 = 35)
o Two different word problems one math story problem using multiplication; one math
story problem that uses division. Make sure your story problems actually make sense
and arent just subtraction/addition problems. Show all work when solving.
Be Creative! You can use whatever objects, pictures, etc. you want to express your
models. (Cheerio arrays; drawings, etc.)
o NEATNESS COUNTS!!! LABEL with VOCABUALRY words whenever possible
(products/factors/divisor/dividend/quotients/terms, etc.)
o LATE PROJECTS with anything other than a doctors note will receive a
lower score on the rubric (attached). Projects turned in after 1 day late
will not be graded and will be a missing quiz grade!
