Have a week of gardening fun with three
fun-filled field trips visiting and explor-
ing different organic farms. Each farm
will have a different production focus.
Find out what a CSA is, take a hayride,
plant a container vegetable garden, par-
ticipate in a cooking class, harvest some
veggies and flowers, see the countryside,
shop a little, and have a great time. We’ll learn about or-
ganic growing methods and food nutrition. We’ll try to stop
by the Herr’s potato chip factory, too.

Survival of the Fittest
If you were dropped off in the middle of Cabin John Region-
al Park without any implements or modern conveniences,
could you survive? By examining the evolutionary wisdom
of plants and animals, we can learn a few tricks that will

learn how to gather and prepare wild edibles, build a fire
without matches, construct a stick shelter, make natural in-
sect repellent and find our way without a compass. Survival

It’s a Matter of Scale
Is there a right size? Explore the small world of micro-
organisms. We’ll create hay infusions and learn how to use
microscopes to examine some of the park’s tiniest creatures

Join us at the coolest camp around! This full-day camp
includes a 30-minute ice skating lesson with a professional
skating coach, open skating time to practice your new skills,
arts & crafts activities,outdoor games, a tennis lesson or two
(weather permitting), and a nature program. Skaters are
grouped according to age and ability; beginning to advanced
(Freestyle 4) skaters are welcome. Rental skates provided

of each day, we’ll learn tennis basics with professional
instructors at Wheaton Indoor Tennis. The other half of the
day will be chock-full of fun, with activities like fishing at
Pine Lake, ice skating at Wheaton Ice Arena, goofing around
at the Splash Playground in South Germantown, rollerblad-

a week to really focus on the sport in this fun and challeng-
ing week-long camp. Using games, personal instruction
and drills, we’ll teach beginning/intermediate level players
all the basics: forehand, backhand, and overhead strokes,
serves and volleys, footwork, scorekeeping, names of the
lines and what they represent, and more. Add some foot-
work drills and cardio exercise, and your inner champion is

Tennis & Ice Skating Camp
Master the fundamentals of two great sports in one week!
We’ll learn the rules, scoring, etiquette, terminology and
techniques of tennis on outdoor courts in the morning, then
move inside to learn basic ice skating techniques—falling
down and getting up, marching, swizzles, snowplow stops
and more—with open skating sessions and a professional
skating lesson each day. Meet at outdoor courts B-2 & B-3,

pro, learning basics like how to hold the club, putting, short

Wheaton Indoor Tennis to learn basic tennis strokes, rules

Discover the outdoors in this high-adventure day camp!
Activities include hiking, fishing, canoeing, ropes course, zip
lines, go-carting, laser tag, rock climbing, trap and skeet, and
swimming. Activities are subject to change depending upon
the weather. Meet in the Cabin John Ice Rink lobby (10610
Westlake Dr., Rockville) for daily transport to and from off-

Chesapeake Week
Explore the Chesapeake Bay and the watershed region
through sailing, camping, canoeing, and more! We’ll begin
the week by exploring the Bay by boat as we trawl for fish,
dredge for oysters, and analyze water samples looking for
microscopic life forms. By mid-week, we’ll take a more
intimate look at the Bay’s waterways by canoeing, camping,
crabbing, and fossil hunting. We’ll end the week examining
the lives of those who call the Bay home, past and present,
including early colonial life and life in a long house village.

River Adventures Kayak Camp
Kayaking is even more fun than it looks! Come learn the
basics of successful kayaking on flat and gentle river waters
in our beginners’ Kayaking Camp. We’ll cover equipment,
safety, basic strokes, entries and exits (wet and dry), boat
control, self-rescue, how to read the water, river hazards,
safe transport of kayaks, knots and hitches, features-uses
of kayaks and kayaking equipment and more, using Ameri-
can Canoe Association-approved instructional manuals and
ACA-certified kayak instructors. We’ll spend our first day on
Little Seneca Lake, learning how to kayak on flatwater and
the other three days kayaking on local rivers (Class I moving
water). Fee Includes kayak rental, personal floatation de-
vices (PFDs), and all other necessary equipment. You must
be able to swim, wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet,
and bring water shoes or strap-on sandals, a brimmed hat,
sunglasses with keeper strap and sunscreen. This is a 4-day

 How to Register for a Montgomery Parks SUMMER CAMP
1 Set up your ParkPASS account:
• Visit www.ParkPASS.org to set up your account online. See p.12 for step-by-step directions.
Please note: It can take up to two business days to activate a new account.
• If you need help, contact the ParkPASS Help Desk at 301-495-2580 (M-F, 10am-2pm),
or email us at MCP-ParkPASSHelp@MontgomeryParks.org.
• Visit one of our ParkPASS facilities (see the Montgomery Parks Directory in this catalog),
and they can help you set up a ParkPASS account on site.
Registration and Refund Info

2 Register for your camp(s):

• Online: Register 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.ParkPASS.org
• In person: Visit a ParkPASS facility (see the Montgomery Parks Directory in this catalog, and look
for the facilities with “ParkPASS” next to their name).
• By phone: Use the ParkPASS automated phone registration system at 301-670-6858
(not available for all programs). Have your ParkPASS Login ID/Customer Number and
Account PIN for each person you wish to register on hand.
• By mail: Fill out the registration form on the next page and mail it with payment to the facility
hosting the camp you’d like to attend. *Important: Submitting this form does not guarantee
a space in the requested camp or program. Please call the ParkPASS Help Desk or the facility
offering the camp to make sure there are openings in the camp you want before mailing in
your form. Many camps fill up very quickly—so online registration is your best bet if you’re
concerned about getting into a particular camp.

3 Fill out and submit the necessary forms

• All participants will need to complete a “Day Camp Participant Profile” form (.pdf), available to
download from www.ParkPASS.org, or at the facility offering the camp you want.
• If your child requires any medication to be administered during camp hours, you’ll also
need to fill out a “Day Camp Medication Form.” This form is also available at ParkPASS.org.
• Submit your form/s via mail or in person at the facility offering the camp you want.

Montgomery Parks SUMMER CAMP Refund Policy

If Montgomery Parks has to cancel a Summer Camp, you will be notified and receive a full credit on
your ParkPASS account, or at your request, a full refund (issued in the same form as received).
To withdraw from a Montgomery Parks Summer Camp, please submit a written request to the facil-
ity hosting your camp or program at least four (4) weeks prior to the start of the camp. Most facilities
accept email as a “written request,” but please check with the facility hosting your camp or program.
You may choose to receive a 100% credit to your ParkPASS account for future programs or classes, or
receive a refund (issued in the same form as received), less a 20% administrative fee.
If your written request is received less than four (4) weeks prior to the start of the camp, no credit or
refund will be issued unless your spot can be filled from the waitlist. If your spot is filled, you may
choose to receive a 100% credit to your ParkPASS account for future programs or classes, or receive a
refund (issued in the same form as received), less a 20% administrative fee.
Please allow 3-4 weeks to receive a check refund. Credit card refunds can take 5-7 days to appear on
your credit card account, depending on your bank/credit card company.

Freestyle-level skaters, use your spring break to get an intensive week of
