ADMISSION INFORMATION
Application Qualifications
1. International students are defined as those who are neither overseas Chinese, nor citizens of Taiwan ROC.
Those who have had their Taiwan ROC nationality annulled for eight years or more are eligible to apply.
This regulation does not apply to students holding Hong Kong or Macao citizenship.
2. Applicants who have graduated from a high school, college or university recognized by the Ministry of
Education, Taiwan ROC can apply for admission (http://www.edu.tw/EDU_WEB/Web/BICER/index.php).
International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for undergraduate programs;
those with bachelor’s degree are eligible for Master’s programs; and those with Master’s degree are
eligible for Doctoral programs.
Required Materials
All international students must submit the following documents.
1. Two application forms for admission with a 2-inch photo taken in the last three months must be attached to
each of the forms.
2. One copy of the highest-level diploma (enclosed with either a Chinese or an English translation of the
diploma). Applicants who have received admission should submit one copy of their diploma and transcript
verified (with official stamp/seal) by Taiwan ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture
Office of the country in which the student resides of their original school when they return their acceptance
letter. After this, an applicant is ready for enrollment.
3. One official transcript of the academic records in English or Chinese certified by the school graduated from.
4. Two letters of recommendation.
5. One health certificate issued within the last six months (Attached HIV certification).
6. One copy of passport.
7. English proficiency certificate (Computer-based TOEFL 133 or above, Paper-based TOEFL 450 or above,
Internet-based TOEFL 45 or above, or diploma obtained in an English speaking country required for
applicants of the Master’s program from non-English speaking countries).
8. Applicants are required to provide Chinese proficiency certificate to show adequate listening, reading,
speaking, and writing proficiency in Chinese at a level necessary for university academic pursuit. However,
those applying for programs which are taught in English are exceptional. Applicants who apply for
admission to those departments/institutes which offer courses in Chinese are required to hand in Chinese
language proficiency certificate. Please follow the rules of the departments.
9. One financial statement issued by bank and authenticated by Taiwan ROC embassy, consulate office, or
Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides. (Applicants must provide a
financial statement showing the amount of at least US$7,500 deposit.)
10. The receipt of application fee US$20, including postage fee. (Should the application fee be remitted to the
university account or pay it at Asia University, please enclose a copy of the receipt.)
Application materials are not returned. Those who were overdue, unqualified, or do not have a complete
documentation in their application will be rejected. In general, applications received after the deadline will not
be processed. If the application is sent by mail, the date of application is determined by the postmark. In the
event of special cases, please contact the Center for International Academic Exchange at ciae@asia.edu.tw.
How to Apply
Applicants may apply for admission in the following ways.
1. Applying in person - You may file your application in person, or through your representative by submitting
all the requirements to the Center for International Academic Exchange (CIAE) at Asia University.
2. Applying by Mail - All application forms and supporting documents should be mailed to:

2. Health Exam for New Students: NT$1,000 (US$32)
3. Insurance Fee - Once international students are admitted, they must apply for the Alien Residence
Certificate (ARC). According to the National Health Insurance regulations, it is mandatory for foreign
students with such certificates to join the National Health Program after living in Taiwan for four months,
and pay Health Insurance fees accordingly. Therefore, after the first semester enrollment, students need to
provide a proof of four months long from any agencies or they may choose to join the Foreign Student
Insurance in Asia University, which is NT$2,000 (US$63) for four month, and purchase Health Insurance of
two months long from the National Health program. After that, students have to purchase Health Insurance
of six months long from the National Health Program every semester.
4. Campus Housing - International students are guaranteed a slot (occupancy for four) in the campus
dormitories. The fee is NT$26,000 (US$840) per academic year, excluding summer and winter breaks.
3. Each academic year begins on August 1 and ends on July 31 in the following year. Fall semester classes
usually begin in mid-September, and spring semester classes begin in mid-February of the following year.
4. In the case of insufficient enrollment, the vacancies in one department can be filled by applicants for other
department with the consent of the admissions committee.
5. Any application matters not stipulated here will be at the Admission Committee’s discretion.
SCHOLARSHIPS/ASSISTANTSHIPS
Students may apply for scholarships provided by Taiwan government, such as Taiwan scholarship. Detail
information can be found at http://english.moe.gov.tw. Moreover, Asia University provides a limited number of
scholarships each year for outstanding students from other countries. All applicants have an opportunity to
compete for scholarship, which may vary depending on the qualification of the applicants, program admitted,
and funding available. International students who have received other scholarships are not eligible to apply.
