and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in Lira, Apac, Oyam, Otuke, Gulu, Napak, Kaabong and Moroto
Districts.

FSL Assistant Program Manager / Agro forestry Kaabong


ACF seeks to hire one highly competent, dynamic and experienced FSL Assistant Program Manager/Agroforestry officer (APMAO) for its operations in Kaabong. The APM-AO provides support for FSL activities such as agricultural production, forestry,
water harvesting, environmental protection and post harvest handling, through interventions such as food for work and cash for work
in Kaabong District of Karamoja, northeast Uganda. He/she will assist in assuring objectives of the program are systematically
achieved according the donor frameworks/proposals & protocols. In coordination with the Program Manager (PM), he/she will
participate in collaborations with partners including WFP, LNGOs, INGOs, CBOs, District Local Government and the Sub county
local governments. He/she will directly report to the FSL Program Manager (PM).
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist the FSL PM in the day to day follow up of programs in Kaabong. He/she shall be in charge of FSL field operations.
- Assist the FSL PM in training of ACF FSL staff as need may arise.
- Supervise the work of the ACF staffs (supervisors and community facilitators) in Kaabong District.
- With direction of the FSL PM, oversee the quality of FSL and resilience related programming
- Strongly participate in generation of technical reports and briefs at weekly (FSL Sitreps), monthly, quarterly basis for both
internal and external consumption. He/she shall also participate in making final project reports. He/she shall do all the
reporting on all relevant indicators in a timely manner with respect to deadlines with specific adherence to approved reporting
formats and guidelines.
- Assist the FSL PM in making procurement requests, budgets, cash forecasts, including proper accountability and efficient
management of FSL stocks/stores.
- In the absence of PM, ensure the overall programme management of activities in Kaabong.
- Conduct performance appraisal of FSL staffs under his/her supervision.
- Communicate regularly with the FSL staffs for follow up, trouble shooting and technical issues.
- Strengthen the links and coordination between the departments and authorities:
- Support the PM in any needs identified in external representation with partners, donors or authorities.
- Work closely with the program team and District Production and District Natural Resources departments to share
experiences related to tree/ crop species selection, multiplication, planting, managing and utilization;
- Actively support and involve in the development of staff & beneficiary training manuals & materials
- Lead the implementation and evaluation of the crop production & Agro-forestry related activities in selected communities. ,
- Organize and facilitate seminars and workshops on issues related to staple crop production, vegetable production, fruit
production, Apiculture, live fences, tree nursery management, Post Harvest Handling, Agroforestry, soil fertility
maintenance, Drip irrigation, produce marketing and value addition.
- Facilitate and organize field days and educational programmes related to Agronomy, agroforestry and soil fertility
maintenance practices in relation to Soil and Water conservation. ;
- Document best practices and success stories on crop production & Agro forestry and protection in the region
- Assist and facilitate mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS, gender, nutrition, DRR/resilience, climate change adaptation and
mitigation measures in all activity implementation;
- Respond to complaints and questions on crop production, post harvest handling, tree management and agro forestry systems.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the FSL PM.
Matching Indicators:
- A degree in Agriculture, forestry or related field with at least three years relevant experience; OR A diploma in agriculture
coupled with valuable experience of at least five years in similar work in a reputable INGO:
- Possession of a valid riding permit is a MUST.
- Experience in implementation large scale projects under food for work and/or cash for work;
- Experience in developing training materials and facilitating workshops;
- Experience with participatory fieldwork methodologies, and monitoring and reporting;
- Team management skills and analytical capacity;
- Excellent knowledge of local area (agricultural practices, seasons, seed varieties, cultural habits, geographic area of assignment
including road and village locations).
- Fluent written and spoken English. Knowledge of Ngakarimojong is an asset;
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office and spreadsheets, analytical software) are a MUST.
- Demonstrable natural love for Agricultural related field work.
- Experience with ACF is an added advantage
