COMPLETE THIS LESSON. THE CLASS WILL CREATE A ZIPLOC COMPOSITION. WHAT IS MUSIC? LISTENING
ACTIVITY. THE CLASS WILL DETERMINE A DEFINITION FOR MUSIC. GROUPS WILL USE THE ITEMS IN THEIR
ZIPLOC BAG TO CREATE SOUNDS. EACH SOUND WILL BE NOTATED...A CREATIVE NOTATION. STUDENTS
WILL SELECT AN EMOTION OR IDEA THAT WILL BE EXPRESSED WITH THE "INSTRUMENTS".
Activities/Procedures:
1. Compare and Contrast: One song: Two Versions Activity
Students will listen to a variety of selections, one song, two versions and complete their activity listening sheet.
Students will share their findings with the class and teacher through discussion.
2. Students will receive a Vocab packet and complete the definition for MEDIUM.
3. Commercials activity: Four clips of the same piece of music are played, but different media is used. Students are
to choose a product to be used in an advertisement with this music. Does the product work with the four examples?
Change the product based on the medium? Students will be assessed on their ability to rationalize their choices and to
describe how the media changes impact their choices.

COMPLETE THIS LESSON. THEN PRESENT THE ZIPLOC COMPOSITION. Students are divided into groups and have
to create a piece of music using the items in the bag. Each sound must be "notated" and the entire piece should be
between 30 and 60 seconds. The class will review the rubric for expectations.
