Appeal to target audience

Audience

When the audience watched my documentary everyone agreed that it did not appeal to the female
side of the target i.e. meaning that it did not appeal to females.
Everyone also agreed that the reason was that it did not have any female in any of the vox pops or
the interviews.

My teachers that watched the documentary said meeting the brief was one of my strengths and
making it appeal to males at a young age as well. They also said that it fits into the BBC three
categories, and it also fits in well with the BBC use of graphics.

Clients

My teachers also said that the work I did meet what I set out to do in the treatment at the pre
production stage.
In my treatment I put forward a host of ideas as of what will happen in my documentary for
example I wanted to interview someone who was a hierarchy at a football club and I landed and
filmed the managing director of Dagenham and Redbridge.

My feedback

I also thought that I meet the target audience that I set out to meet very well I made sure that I had
some sort of youth in my documentary to make sure I appealed to that side of my documentary. One
thing that I did not do was appeal to females, in my documentary there is not a single women init
and that is I felt I lost some audience and also some marks.
USP- Place in the market

Audience

The feedback that I received from my audience who are my class mates was positive; one of the
reasons for this was that unlike my focus group when I was presenting my work at the beginning of
the project. When presenting that the people in my focus group most f the people in that were not
very influence by football and they found it hard to give very good feedback. On the contrary in this
part I was able to receive very good feedback because of the diversity of the group in sporting wise.

The feedback I received contained both negatives and also positives; some were very major
meaning that it could have influence my documentary in a significant way. The audience pointed
out aspects that made it unique and one of those points was made about the editing. Aspects such as
archive footage and they way it was edited, and the usage of conventions. The negatives were that
my documentary did not include any females; that was an area that was pointed out.

Overall my audience said that most of them did not see anything like my documentary even most
professional companies did not pin point that area there was talk but no documentary.

Clients

My clients also gave good feedback; they pointed out both positives and also negatives, they were
both very similar to the ones that I received from my audience. The positives was mostly down to
the conventions that I added to my documentary, which were things such as voice over the use of
presenter and also archive footage. The negatives were that this would not be unique for females
because in my documentary they were no females.

Overall my clients said that this piece of work was unique because it focuses on a point in football
that has been growing in statute, that people would be interested because of the lack of other media
texts that are similar.

Own feedback

I think my media production has a firm place in the market. This was enhancing that the fact when
doing research I was not able to find any other media text that was similar to my work. In the
research stage I searched both old and new texts and was not able to find any similar texts.

The texts that I was able to find mostly focused on one half of the premier league. And that was the
top half; I felt that I was making my documentary at the right time because the time that I made it
was round about the time that Portsmouth football club went into administration. So not a lot of
other companies were not really focusing on the situation of the teams that were at the bottom of the
league.

Audience

My class mates thought that the vice over in my documentary worked well, and that it was a good
thing that I did that. A thing that they pointed out was at the beginning of my documentary when I
did they voice over the archive footage.

They also pointed out that there was good use of cutaways between shots. Most of my audience
were in awe about my archive footage that I put together, they all agreed on the fact that the music
best suited the clip then they said that the clips were well synchronized with the video. And also the
sign in and of was there and gave the documentary a good beginning and end.
As to where my class mates said that there were good cutaway shots my clients in this case who are
my teachers said that I lacked in the cutaway department.

But they did justify there reason as to my class mates my clients said that there was no shots of me
asking questions.
They particularly said that the interview with Steve Thompson the managing director of Dagenham
and Redbridge. That was the interview that raised there concerns because there was no shots of me
asking the questions.

Clients

My teachers said that the voice over’s were a bit dodgy because there was background noise such as
clicking of computer mouse’s and also talking in some of the voice over’s particularly when I was
discussing the money in football the information about Manchester United, Liverpool and
Portsmouth.
Me personal I think that I did very well in the sign in and of section, but my biggest strength was
the archive footage about the premier being more exciting.

Own feedback

I thought that the music I chosen worked brilliantly with the footage and spoke volumes when it
was completed. Throughout that section of discussion the camera work was not mentioned. I that
area I thought I did not do much wrong there was that one piece of filing that the camera could have
been placed better.
That piece of my documentary was when I did the interview with the Sunday league manager. The
camera was at a bad angle I kind of made the shot look a bit funny about the size difference
between me and the manager.

Use of technology

Definition – how well you used the equipment

Audience

My audience said that there was a good use of technology and graphics. That came across when I
used the graphics to talk about the money that has been spent by the different clubs (Manchester
United, Liverpool) and also when I talked about what has been going on at Portsmouth.
My audience also picked up that there was good inter cutting between vox pops. That was aimed at
how I used vox pops in my documentary. At the beginning of my documentary I had some vox pops
and near the end of my documentary. I went backed to them and the questions where this time about
what had already happened in the documentary. So my audience said that worked really well.

Clients

My clients who are my teachers said that there were marks lost in some of my editing techniques.
That was mostly aimed at the interview with the Sunday league manager. Also the last part of the
interview with the managing director of Dagenham and Redbridge. My teachers also said that the
music worked very well with what was on the screen.

Own feedback

I had to agree with everything that was said and there was some new aspects such as the inter
cutting between the vox pops. I felt I did very in the archive footage department, I thought I did
well in getting the archive and choosing the specific clips I need and then merging them with the
music. Also I think I did well when editing my interview with Steve Thompson I had to route the
mirror angle of my work which was a bit different from my other interviews shots.
Improvements

Definition – what things could I improve on

Audience

As I pointed out before all my audience picked up on the framing in some shots mainly the one with
me and the Sunday league manager. Also there were questions raised that I did not explain football
finance to the full extent. And that is spot on to some extent. Also there were to much wind in some
of my shots that should have been sorted out.

Clients

My audience all audience well mainly the female side said that it did not appeal to them. And that is
true. To be honest I found it challenging to make it appeal to them. Even when doing vox pops there
were not that many young females within my specified age range that were at the football match.

Own feedback

The noises in the background is a big deficiencies the noises during the voice over’s and also the
element of wind. I felt those two things were the things really let down my otherwise good
documentary. I also think some of my framing was a bit lacking, especially during the interview I
did wit the Sunday league manager Damien
