The

News for St. Peters family and friends

Dear Friends in Christ,
On Sunday, May 15, we celebrated the
Rites of Confirmation for five of our wonderful
young adults. As part of our worship that day
Caroline Bedenbaugh, Martin Craps, Emma
Grace Jordan, Mallory Nichols, and Garrett Smith
publically affirmed the faith into which they were
baptized, faith in Jesus Christ as their personal
Lord and Savior. It was a joyous occasion for
those of us participating as we were reminded of
the promises God made to all of us in our own
baptism, and of the pledge we made to God at
our confirmation.

recall those words you pledged to God? Have

you thought about them lately? How are you
doing in keeping your pledge? Good? Not so
good? Dont even remember what you pledged?
It is important (and a blessing!) to remember the
power of the Good News of Jesus Christ! Even
right now we can remember that God through
Christ forgives us of all our sins, including the
sins related to not even remembering all of the
promises we made to God at our confirmation.
Moreover, Gods Holy Spirit will fill us with a
desire to circle back around to those pledges,
recommit ourselves to those pledges, and will
empower us to strive to keep them! And what
were those promises? Oh yes, in answer to the
question, Do you intend to continue in the
covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism: to
live among Gods faithful people, to hear his
Word and share in his supper, to proclaim the
good news of God in Christ through word and
deed, to serve all people, following the example
of our Lord Jesus, and to strive for justice and
peace in all the earth?. We answered, I do, and
I ask God to help and guide me.

At our baptism Almighty God liberated us

from sin and death by joining us to the death and
resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. At our
baptismwe who were born in sinGod
recreated us in Christ and made us inheritors of
eternal life. At our baptism our gracious God, by
water and the Word, made us members of the
Church which is the body of Christ. As Martin
Luther wrote in the Small Catechism, It
(baptism) brings about forgiveness of sins,
redeems from death and the devil, and gives
I pray we will all take this pledge we
eternal salvation to all who believe it, as the made to God seriously, and that we will ASK
Word and promise of God declare. All of this GOD DAILY how He wants us to LIVE TODAY.
God promises us in the Sacrament of Holy
Baptism, and God keeps His promises!
God loves you, and so do I,
Pastor Bill
Confirmation is our opportunity to
respond to these marvelous promises of God. At
our confirmation we responded to God with
words making our pledge back to God. Do you

Drops from the Well can be delivered to your phone
via a text message or to your email inbox. Drops
from the Well focuses on sending out one key point
or Gospel kernel with the hopes that you read and
reflect on that drop each day of the week. Every
morning at the breakfast table, pray this drop
together as a family. Every night around the dinner
table, use the drop as the lens through which you
recap your day. You can share highs and lows
around this verse, talk about a mistake you made
and the way the Living Water, even in this little
drop, helped you through.

Stewardship Thoughts
The Law of Proportionate
Participation
This writing comes from the 14th Chapter of the
book The 33 Laws of Stewardship written by
Dave Sutherland and Kirk Nowery.
Gods provision
proportion.

dictates

the

believers

Dont worry about what you have or dont

have to give.
The Law of Proportionate
Provision is a reassuring truth of Scripture
because it eliminates the pressure of thinking
about what we have or dont have to give.
Relying upon the Lord and depending upon Him
as our source, we grow in grace as we give. In the
process, giving becomes a therapeutic experience,
for as we die to self we come alive in faith.
Give in proportion to everything you have
received. Proportionate participation in the
work of God involves much more than money.
Whatever God has given you, in whatever
measure, is to be dedicated to him. Your talents,
your abilities, your material wealth, your time
all are resources from which you can give.
Deny the dominance of worldly thinking.
Worldly attitudes emphasize me and mine, and
they can suck us into a whirlpool of obsessions.
In 1 John 2:15, John the Apostle cautioned, Do
not love the world or anything in the world. If
anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is
not in him. As believers in Jesus Christ, we
belong to a different universe. Our citizenship is
in heaven, and if we act as if our citizenship is in
this corrupt world, we lose sight and we lose the
fullness of Gods blessing.
God will provide. Thats a certainty. And the
proportion of His provision defines the
proportion of our giving.

St. Peters Presents...

HANDS OF HELP; HANDS OF HOPE
Reaching out to give help and hope through flood recovery volunteer
teams
Beginning this summer, St. Peters will be offering our Scout Hut as a volunteer flood recovery
team host site. Out-of-state congregations and organizations will be working with the Long
Term Recovery Group in sending teams of flood recovery volunteers to work in the Midlands.
Our congregation will offer these volunteers a place to stay, warm showers (using the NALCprovided shower trailer), hearty meals, and our famous St. Peters hospitality; but
we need your help to make this ministry a success!
A donation campaign is underway to provide supplies for
visiting flood recovery volunteer teams, and weve made it easy for you to help!
Just look for the Tree of Hope in the Parish Life Center.
Hanging on this tree are the items we need to host our visiting volunteers. Some of
these needs are one-time purchases and some will be on-going needs as
different groups come and go.
If you are interested in working with some of these visiting volunteer teams or in forming our
own St. Peters volunteer team to help flood survivors rebuild, please email your area(s) of
interest and/or expertise and available dates to Pastor Paulette at pdmchugh@mac.com. May
God bless you for sharing in this ministry and for giving hands of help and hands of hope.

Our hope for you is unshaken,

for we know that as you share in our sufferings,
you will also share in our comfort. - 2 Corinthians 1:7
